YOU NOW. KENNY, THANK YOU. THE NCAA TOURNAMENT IS UNDERWAY AND OUR SPORTS TEAM IS ON THE ROAD COVERING OUR TOBACCO ROAD TEAM. CHRIS PETERSEN JOINS US LIVE TONIGHT OUTSIDE PBG PAINTS ARENA, WHERE NC STATE TIPS OFF AT 940 TONIGHT AGAINST TEXAS TECH. CHRIS SECOND ROUND IN THIS TOURNAMENT. IT’S SURVIVE AND ADVANCE. DEVONTE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN YOUR NEXT GAME WILL BE YOUR LAST. AND THAT’S ESPECIALLY TRUE FOR LONGTIME VOICE OF THE PAC GARY HAHN. GARY HAHN HAS BEEN CALLING NC STATE FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL FOR 34 YEARS. HAHN SAYS HIS DREAM OF BEING ON THE RADIO STARTED IN HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE HE HOPED TO CALL GAMES FOR HIS BELOVED PITTSBURGH PIRATES. THAT NEVER HAPPENED, BUT ANYWAY, UH, IF YOU’D HAVE HEARD ME AS A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR AND YOU SAID THIS, THIS KID WANTS TO GET INTO BROADCASTING. IS HE NUTS? I HAD THE WORST VOICE IN THE WORLD. I DID, I MEAN, IT WAS TERRIBLE. I TALKED THROUGH MY NOSE. IT WAS. IT WAS REALLY BAD. BUT. BUT SOMEHOW GOD HAD. HE GAVE ME SOME TALENT. AND THEN HE DEVELOPED IT. AND, UH, LO AND BEHOLD, THIS IS WHAT THIS IS. THIS IS THE END OF IT. EARLIER THIS YEAR, HAHN ANNOUNCED THAT THIS WOULD BE HIS LAST SEASON BEHIND THE MIC. HAHN TURNED 72 IN JUNE AND SPENT THE LAST TWO YEARS CARING FOR HIS MOTHER BEFORE SHE PASSED IN FEBRUARY AT THE AGE OF 94. I JUST FELT LIKE THIS WAS THE THIS WAS THE RIGHT TIME, YOU KNOW, AND I DIDN’T WANT TO HANG ON AND START LOSING MY SKILLS BECAUSE I’M JUST TOO MUCH OF A PERFECTIONIST TO HAVE THAT HAPPEN. I DIDN’T WANT TO DO THAT. SO USING BASEBALL TERMINOLOGY, I’D RATHER GO OUT LIKE SANDY KOUFAX THAN SOMEBODY THAT HUNG ON TOO LONG, LIKE, UH, ANOTHER HALL OF FAME PITCHER, ROBIN ROBERTS. MANY FOLKS, INCLUDING HAHN, THOUGHT THE ACC TOURNAMENT WOULD BE HIS LAST CALL. BUT THEN SOMETHING UNBELIEVABLE HAPPENED. THE PACK WON FIVE GAMES IN FIVE DAYS TO WIN THE ACC TOURNAMENT TITLE, A WIN HAHN BELIEVES IS THE TEAM’S BIGGEST SINCE HE’S BEEN THE VOICE OF THE PACK. I WOULD SAY, YEAH, THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST WINS THAT I’VE BEEN, UH, PRIVILEGED ENOUGH TO BROADCAST, AND I NEVER THOUGHT THAT I WOULD GET AN OPPORTUNITY TO CALL AN ACC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WHERE NC STATE WON. I MEAN, ANYBODY THAT TELLS YOU THAT THEY THOUGHT THE PACK ON MONDAY WAS GOING TO WIN THE ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT, THEY’RE THEY’RE LYING TO YOU. THE WIN MEANT AN NCAA TOURNAMENT BERTH FOR STATE, WHICH PUT RETIREMENT ON HOLD FOR HAHN. AND THAT’S JUST FINE WITH HIM. I DON’T KNOW WHETHER ANYBODY’S TELLING ME ANYTHING, BUT I’M LOVING IT. I’LL TELL YOU WHAT, I COULD GO SIX MORE GAMES IN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REAL EASY. YEAH, I’M SURE ALL OF WOLFPACK NATION FEELS THE SAME WAY IN FRONT OF PPG PAINTS ARENA IN PITTSBURGH.
