RANDOLPH COUNTY JAIL WITHOUT BOND. HAPPENING NOW. A DEATH INVESTIGATION IS UNDERWAY FOLLOWING A BRUSH FIRE IN WILKES COUNTY. THE BOOMER FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO A BRUSH FIRE ON BROOKVIEW DRIVE IN MORAVIAN FALLS YESTERDAY. AND WHILE FIREFIGHTERS WERE PUTTING OUT THOSE FLAMES, THEY FOUND THE BODY OF HOWARD CARLTON AT THE EDGE OF THE WOODS WHERE THE FIRE HAD BEEN BURNING. THE WILKES COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS IT DOES NOT BELIEVE THE 89 YEAR OLD’S DEATH OR THE FIRE IS SUSPICIOUS. AN AUTOPSY WILL BE DONE TO

A man was found dead after a brush fire near his home, according to deputies with the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office.

On Wednesday, around 2 p.m., the Boomer Fire Department was dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Brookview Drive in Moravian Falls, after a brush fire broke out.

    While trying to put out the fire, firefighters found a dead body on the edge of the wood line where the fire had been. Wilkes County deputies, along with the Wilkes County Fire Marshal’s Office, responded to the scene.

    The victim was identified as Howard Carlton, who lived in the home that authorities were dispatched to.
