THIS IS A WXII 12 EDITORIAL BY PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER MICHELLE -- THE TYPICAL ORG CHART IN A PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM IS OWNER, THEN GENERAL MANAGER AND THEN THE COACH. WHILE THREE FORMER PLAYERS NOW HAVE OWNERSHIP IN A TEAM, THE MAJORITY OF OWNERS COME FROM BACKGROUNDS AS DIVERSE AS TECHNOLOGY OR FINANCE. SO MOST LET SOMEONE ELSE HANDLE DAY TO DAY, WHICH IS WHY PANTHERS FANS HAD TO KNOW THERE WERE PROBLEMS AFOOT WHEN WEEKS AGO COACH FRANK REICH MENTIONED HE MET WITH OWNER DAVID TEPPER WEEKLY. TEPPER WAS A MONEY GUY. GOLDMAN SACHS AND HIS OWN PRIVATE EQUITY FIRM. AS FAR AS I CAN FIND, HIS FOOTBALL CAREER ENDED IN HIGH SCHOOL, SO WHEN TEPPER ANNOUNCED ON MONDAY, REICH WAS OUT. YOU GOT TO ASK, WHO’S REALLY TO BLAME SINCE TEPPER BOUGHT THE TEAM IN 2018, THE PANTHERS HAVE STRUGGLED TO A 30 AND 63 RECORD ROWAN RIVERA WAS FIRED IN 2019. MATT RHULE IN 2022, AND NOW REICH, THE BEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM, CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY, WAS TRADED AWAY LAST YEAR AND NEW COACH AND A ROOKIE QUARTERBACK WERE EXPECTED TO TURN AROUND THE FRANCHISE WHILE ONE TRADE CAN CHANGE FORTUNES ON WALL STREET, IT’S NOT THAT WAY ON THE GRIDIRON. IT TOOK FOUR YEARS FOR HALL OF FAME QB TURNED VP OF OPS JOHN ELWAY TO LAND PEYTON MANNING AND GET DENVER A SUPER BOWL AND DAVID TEPPER. AIN’T NO JOHN ELWAY. AS A GIRL WHO GREW UP ON WASHINGTON FOOTBALL, THE SIMILARITIES IN THESE TWO FRANCHISES ARE EERIE. AND I’M HERE TO TELL YOU, CAROLINA FANS, THIS PLAYBOOK IS, IN A WORD, AGONIZING. KING WXII, 1
