Brian Slocum
MeteorologistBrian Slocum is a Meteorologist at WXII 12 News.
Brian can trace his love for weather to a single childhood memory when he was 10 years old.
While playing outside on a hot, summer afternoon, a sudden storm moved in. He recalls a police officer who drove through the neighborhood and announced that a tornado was approaching.
Instead of moving indoors, Brian hopped on his bike and was about to pedal toward the approaching storm until his father coaxed him inside. They took cover in the basement as the storm raged, but Brian has been passionate about severe weather ever since.
Brian graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in geography, concentrating his studies on climatology. A few years later, he returned to school and earned a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. He started his TV weather career at WMDT-TV in Salisbury, Maryland, before working at stations in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, including a three-year stint as Chief Meteorologist for WBOY-TV in Clarksburg, before moving to the Triad in 2005.
When he’s not tracking storms, Brian enjoys visiting with students and talking about weather. He also enjoys traveling, live music and sports. Most of all, though, Brian enjoys time at home with his family.
