The family of a Winston-Salem man who was shot and killed near a South Carolina Chick-fil-A has released a statement.According to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office, the shooting happened Wednesday, around 1:20 p.m., near the Chick-fil-A on North Main Street in Summerville, South Carolina.The coroner's office identified the victim as Michael O'Neal, 39, of Winston-Salem. SLED was requested to investigate by the Summerville Police Department.The reasoning, or motive, behind the altercation is not known. It's also not known why the officer fired the shot that killed O'Neal.Friday, O'Neal's family released the following statement as they ask for privacy:“We appreciate the love and support of the communities and friends. This is a senseless, difficult time and not deserved by anyone. Michael was hilarious, loving, and the light of the room in any situation. We appreciate privacy at this time while we have a chance to grieve our loss.”Authorities have not named the off-duty officer that was involved.
