Both Republican Mark Robinson and Democrat Josh Stein have hit the ground running with their campaigns.
The two candidates have 8 months to convince North Carolina voters who is the best candidate for the job.
"Mark Robinson his vision is bleak and divisive," said Stein. "Consumed by spite and hate."
"We're not going to allow these folks to drag this campaign into the mud," said Robinson. "Those who want to go into the mud, feel free."
Both parties have already begun to fight online. The Democratic Governors Association launched a video using Robinson's own works against him.
"I'd love to pass a law that restricts abortion. We could pass a bill that says you can't have an abortion for any reason," said Robinson, according to the Democratic Governors Association.
In turn, The Republican Governor's Association launched 'The Real Josh Stein' website accusing the democrat of supporting President Biden and failing as North Carolina's Attorney General.
The website claims the number of murders in the state rose 25% under Stein's watch, however, the website does not site where the numbers come from.
The SBI crime report notes the number of murders fell in North Carolina by 13% in 2022.
On Saturday, Donald Trump praised Robinson in his speech during his rally at the Greensboro Coliseum.
"I think you're better than Martin Luther King," said former President, Donald Trump. 'I think you're Martin Luther King times two."
Fellow Republicans have not hesitated to criticize. Bill Graham, who lost the GOP primary for governor issued a statement.

"Mark Robinson is an unelectable candidate in the general election in North Carolina, and he puts a conservative future at risk for everyone, from the courthouse to the White House," said Graham.
One issue that divides Robinson and Stein is abortion.
"Let me be clear about reproductive health care, contraception, IVF and abortion," said Stein. "As governor, I will veto any further restrictions on women's reproductive freedoms."
Robinson did not mention abortion during his acceptance speech on Tuesday night.
"People ask me, 'What's the difference between you and your Democratic challenger?' The answer is simple. I'm part of a winning team," Robinson said.
Robinson also said Republicans have done a better job than Democrats with the economy, noting the state's $5 billion surplus, along with its number one ranking as a business destination.
"You better believe that Robinson's extreme views would scare away business and good-paying jobs," said Stein.
No matter who wins, this race will make history in North Carolina. Voters will elect either the state's first black or Jewish governor.
