HER NAME HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED. NORTH CAROLINA AND VIRGINIA ARE AT RISK FOR BLACKOUTS. THIS WINTER SEASON, ACCORDING TO ENERGY EXPERTS. A REPORT FROM THE NORTH AMERICAN ELECTRIC RELIABILITY CORPORATION FOUND UTILITY COMPANIES IN THE CAROLINAS AND VIRGINIA CAN MEET ENERGY NEEDS UNDER NORMAL SCENARIOS. BUT ANY SIGNIFICANT DROP IN TEMPERATURES COULD LEAD TO ENERGY EMERGENCIES. LAST YEAR, AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME, A COLD SNAP CAUSED OUTAGES AND ROLLING BLACKOUTS IN THE CAROLINAS. YOU MAY RECALL THAT DUKE ENERGY SAYS IT’S WORKING TO KEEP THAT FROM HAPPENING AGAIN THIS YEAR. SO THE FIRST THING THAT WE DO IS WE MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR POWER SOURCES ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL, READY TO OPERATE, READY TO GO WHEN WE NEED THEM. OUR MODELS CONTINUE TO LEARN FROM PAST EVENTS, INCLUDING WHAT WE SAW LAST YEAR AND WHEN WE PUT THAT INFORMATION INTO THEM, THAT HELPS BETTER PREDICT THE FUTURE.
