THAT, LINDSAY. ALL RIGHT, DAVE, THANK YOU. ALAMANCE BURLINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT LEADERS ARE ASKING ALAMANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS FOR MORE FUNDING. A MEETING GOT UNDERWAY AT 930 THIS MORNING. ABSCESS LEADERS SAY THEY ARE FACING A BUDGET CRISIS RIGHT NOW ESCALATED BY MOLD REMEDIATION EFFORTS. THAT’S AFTER MOLD WAS DISCOVERED IN SEVERAL BUILDINGS THIS SUMMER. BOARD MEMBERS SAY THEY ARE STRETCHED THIN RIGHT NOW WITH JUST MORE THAN $100,000 LEFT IN THEIR SAVINGS ACCOUNT. SEVERAL PARENTS HAVE ALSO SPOKEN OUT AT THE MEETING WITH MANY SUPPORTING THE DISTRICT’S REQUEST FOR MORE FUNDING. AND LOOKING AHEAD TONIGHT, PARENTS IN DAVIDSON COUNTY SCHOOLS CAN WEIGH IN ON THE PROPOSED CALENDR FOR THE 2024 2025. ACADEMIC YEAR. CLASSES WOULD START ON AUGUST 25TH AND END ON JUNE 9TH. THAT IS 178 DAYS IN THE CLASSROOM ROOM TONIGHT. TONIGHT’S HEARING ON THE CALENDAR BEGINS AT 630 AT DAVIS TOWNSEND ELEMENTARY. THAT’S ON HEATH CHURCH ROAD IN LEXINGTON. ONE PERSON IS SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER A SHOOTING IN GREENSBORO. POLICE SAY OFFICERS FOUND THE VICTIM ON TURNBRIDGE CIRCLE AROUND 730 LAST NIGHT. THEY WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. NO WORD ON ANY SUSPECTS OR ARRESTS AT THIS TIME. AND ONE PERSON IS DEAD AFTER A HOUSE FIRE IN DANVILLE, VIRGINIA. A FIRE CHIEF SAYS CREWS ARRIVED TO THE HOME ON SCHOOLFIELD DRIVE AROUND 530 YESTERDAY. THEY FOUND HEAVY FIRE AND SMOKE IN THE FRONT OF THE HOME. THE VICTIM WAS LOCATED INSIDE THE BEDROOM AND CREWS ALSO FOUND A SMALL DOG INSIDE. THEY SAY THE ANIMAL RECEIVED MEDICAL TREATMENT. BUT INVESTIGATORS SAY THE FIRE BEGAN FROM DISCARDED SMOKING MATERIALS. AS THE BROTHER OF A MURDER VICTIM IS DEMANDING JUSTICE AS THE INVESTIGATION INTO THE HOMICIDE CONTINUES. 32 YEAR OLD LAVERNE JOHNSON WAS SHOT ON ELM STREET IN NORTH WILKESBORO BACK IN SEPTEMBER. HE DIED ABOUT TWO WEEKS LATER FROM HIS INJURIES AND HIS BROTHER TELLS WXII 12 NEWS HE’S FRUSTRATED THERE STILL HAVE BEEN NO ARRESTS, MADE MORE THAN TWO MONTHS FOLLOWING THAT SHOOTING. IF YOU CAN LITERALLY, YOU KNOW, JUST KILL SOMEONE AND AND NOTHING HAPPENED, I MEAN, THE GUYS GUYS HAD TIME TO GET OUT OF THE COUNTRY BY NOW. IF THEY HAD THE MEANS. I WISH I COULD HAVE HELPED THEM. YOU KNOW, WITH THIS MUSIC AND ALL THAT. UM. HE WAS ACTUALLY A REALLY GOOD, GOOD PERSON, THOUGH. LIKE HE DOES. HE DOES MUSIC. HE WAS REALLY MOTIVATED TO, TO SUCCEED IN LIFE. AND NORTH WILKESBORO POLICE TELL US THEY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING THAT HOMICIDE. JOHNSON BELIEVES HE KNOWS WHO SHOT HIS BROTHER IN HOPES THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT TAKES ACTION SOON. DIVERS HAVE FOUND THE WRECKAGE AND THE REMAINS OF FIVE CREW MEMBERS FROM A US AIR FORCE OSPREY AIRCRAFT CRASH. THE PLANE WENT DOWN LAST WEEK OFF THE COAST OF JAPAN DURING A TRAINING MISSION. EIGHT PEOPLE WERE ON BOARD. CREWS PREVIOUSLY FOUND THE BODY OF ONE VICTIM AND TWO PEOPLE HAVE YET TO BE FOUND. NO WORD YET ON WHAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS CRASH. On Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team received information through the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office app about illegal narcotics at the 200 block of Snow Creek Road, north of Statesville.

Two Iredell County deputies responded to the residence and spoke with three individuals, who all lived at the residence. While speaking with the three occupants, drug paraphernalia was located.

The deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence. Narcotics Investigators responded to the home and assisted in the search. The search uncovered methamphetamine, prescription pills, marijuana wax, a weapon of mass destruction, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana drug paraphernalia.

Wendy Benfield, 53, and Samuel Price, 49, were arrested for various felony drug charges and transported to the detention center. The third resident was issued a citation for misdemeanor possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia and remained at the residence. They have a court date in Statesville on Jan. 8, 2024.
