Suspect killed after pursuit shootout and crash with officers, deputies in Forsyth County
A suspect who was involved in a shootout with officers during a pursuit on a highway that ended in a crash has died.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said a deputy tried to stop a vehicle around 2:10 a.m. on Lewisville-Clemmons Road near U.S. 421 southbound, but said the driver refused to stop.
According to the sheriff's office, the driver of the car fired multiple shots at patrol vehicles during a pursuit. The sheriff's office said multiple patrol vehicles were struck by gunfire, including one Winston-Salem police vehicle. The sheriff's office said the pursuit ended with a crash on U.S. 421 northbound around 2:21 a.m.

The driver continued shooting at officers after the crash, according to the sheriff's office, and two deputies fired back.
The sheriff's office said the suspect, Alexander Parks Holland, 29, of Charleston, South Carolina exited the vehicle with a rifle and continued shooting. Officers fired their weapons and struck Holland. The sheriff's office said officers attempted life-saving measures but Holland who was also injured from gunfire and the crash died.
The sheriff's office said one deputy was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.
According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office and the Winston-Salem Police Department, the two officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave per standard procedure. The two officers involved are Officer Lancaster who's a five-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department and is currently assigned to the Patrol Division. The other officer involved is Officer Perrell who's a four-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department and is currently assigned to the Patrol Division. The sheriff's office said three deputies are also on administrative leave but haven't released their names.

All that we ask in return is your continued prayers and support,” Sheriff Bobby F. Kimbrough, Jr. said.
The sheriff's office asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to independently investigate this incident. The Winston-Salem Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division also responded to the scene and assumed the investigation into the assault of the officers. An administrative investigation will be conducted by the Winston-Salem Police Department's Professional Standards Division.
