8-year-old found dead in Surry County
An 8-year-old was found dead Friday in Surry County.
According to the sheriff's office, around 12:50 p.m., deputies received a call in reference to an unresponsive child who wasn't breathing.

Deputies say the incident happened at a home on Old Lowgap Road in Lowgap. When first responders arrived, they found an 8-year-old victim "deceased from a gunshot wound."
Authorities have not said if they are looking for any suspects.
The victim has not been identified.
"Sheriff Steve C. Hiatt requests that you keep the family of the victim in your most caring thoughts and prayers," a news release said. "This incident is an isolated incident and still an active investigation."
It's also unknown if charges will be filed in this case.
