Tropical Storm warnings are now in effect for the entire North Carolina coast. State Emergency Management officials, the National Guard, State Highway Patrol troopers, and transportation and local first responders are staged across the state.Heavy rainfall and localized flooding are the greatest threats as Idalia approaches the southeast corner of the state."We expect winds, rain and flooding to continue to impact our state into Saturday," Cooper said.Flash flooding anticipated across the Piedmont and Coastal Plain areas.The NCDOT has about 2,200 employees prepared to respond to transportation infrastructure needs across North Carolina. The department has about 1,900 trucks, backhoes, loaders and motor graders ready to clear debris, and thousands of barricades and emergency signs to deploy, as needed, after the storm passes. All Ports facilities are open and operating on a normal schedule today. Starting tomorrow, commercial activities and tenant access will be suspended at the Ports of Wilmington and Morehead City until further notice. For the Ferry Division, five of the seven vehicle ferry routes will be suspended starting at the end of the day. Operations for the Hatteras-to-Ocracoke route are expected to be suspended after Thursday’s first run and conditions of the Currituck route will be monitored tomorrow. 12:15 p.m. - Savannah Mayor Van Johnson and emergency officials held a briefing this morning warning of the possible dangers of the hurricane. "The threat is real, the threat is real, so we can expect the conditions to deteriorate throughout the day. We can expect around 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock this starts getting really, really bad for the area, and it will continue into the night time hours," said Dennis Jones with Chatham Emergency Management. Savannah is under a state of emergency.

10:30 a.m. - Hurricane Idalia is now headed toward the southern part of Georgia after passing through Tallahassee, Florida. The National Weather Service says that storm-force winds of 39 mph with a gust of 63 mph have been reported at the airport in Valdosta, Georgia.

9:25 a.m. - Businesses along the North Carolina coast prepare for the impact of Hurricane Idalia as it heads further north after making landfall in Florida.
