I’M KAREN KATE. FOR. THE AMERICAN RED CROSS, NEED YOUR HELP IDENTIFYING AND HONORING LOCAL HEROES. THE NOMINATING WINDOW IS NOW OPEN FOR THE 2023 SALUTE TO HEROES AWARDS. THE RED CROSS GIVES THESE OUT EVERY YEAR TO DESERVING FIRST RESPONDERS, VETERANS AND GOOD SAMARITANS WHO HAVE DONE SOMETHING EXTRAORDINARY IN OUR COMMUNITY. YOU HAVE, FROM NOW UNTIL THE END OF APRIL TO NOMINATE SOMEBODY. AND THE AWARD CEREMONY IS IN SEPTEMBER. THE EVENT IS REALLY TO CELEBRATE ORDINARY PEOPLE WHO DO JUST AMAZING THINGS IN OUR COMMUNITY. Annual event honors local first responders and heroic citizens for their selfless acts

The Piedmont Triad chapter of the American Red Cross is asking for nominations from the public for its annual Salute to Heroes event, which is set for September this year. Salute to Heroes recognizes and honors the outstanding and selfless work of local people who fit into one of seven categories — veteran military personnel, active duty military personnel, law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, emergency communications, and citizen heroes.Nominees must live, work, or go to school in Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry or Yadkin counties. This year's nomination deadline is April 30, 2023. All nominations will be reviewed by the Salute to Heroes Selection Committee. Click here to nominate a hero! In 2022, the Red Cross honored a veteran who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, a Greensboro firefighter and philanthropist, a Special Olympics advocate, an Asheboro police officer who saved a drowning man, an inspirational young girl from Kernersville whose love of veterans knows no bounds, the woman responsible for re-igniting a program to honor local vets, and all 261 Winston-Salem firefighters responsible for fighting a fire at a fertilizer plant earlier that year."The event is really to celebrate ordinary people who do just amazing things in our community and we really want to have that opportunity to bring them together, recognize them, and inspire others," said Heather Frazee, executive director of the Piedmont Triad chapter of the American Red Cross.To learn more about the event, the qualifications, watch last year's virtual event, or nominate someone this time around, visit the official American Red Cross Salute to Heroes webpage.
