Michelle Kennedy
MeteorologistMichelle Kennedy is a Meteorologist at WXII 12 News.
A native of Fayetteville, New York, Michelle joined the team in May 2001. She started her career as a reporter for KTVO in Kirksville, Missouri. As she chased tornadoes, covered ice storms and warned about heat waves, Michelle recognized her passion for meteorology. She went on to join WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina, where she forecast during hurricanes Bertha and Fran. Her next stop was Austin, Texas, where she covered severe storms and flash floods for KTBC. She later returned to the Carolinas to be closer to her family at WCCB in Charlotte before coming to the Triad.
Michelle holds a journalism degree from the University of Maryland at College Park. She also completed the broadcast meteorology program at Mississippi State University. She is a member of the American Meteorological Society, earned the distinction of Certified Broadcast Meteorologist and holds the AMS Television Seal of Approval.
During her two decades at WXII 12, Michelle has enjoyed reporting on science and weather in North Carolina and Virginia. She was honored to be selected to join the NOAA Hazardous Weather Testbed at the National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, for the Spring Experiment in 2018, where she learned from operational meteorologists and researchers.
Michelle has two sons, Cody and Dawson. She enjoys camping, mountain biking, hiking, sailing, traveling, poetry and, most importantly, raising and playing with her boys. She also feels grateful to serve on boards representing Trellis Supportive Care and the Arts Based School in Winston-Salem. Michelle is also a 2020 National Philanthropy Day Spirit Of Philanthropy Honoree.
