Christine Cruz

Anchor

Christine Cruz is an Anchor at WXII 12 News and Triad CW. Christine joined the team in May 2021 after spending nearly three decades working in her hometown of Miami, Florida.

Christine started her career in television news in the early 1990s at Dynamic Cablevision in Miami, where she produced stories for the station’s English and Spanish broadcasts. She also provided South Florida viewers with their daily forecasts as the station’s weathercaster.

Christine later joined the Telemundo affiliate in Miami where she did weather and entertainment reporting, in addition to working for the Discovery Channel, translating scripts and voicing content for their Latin American viewers.

Christine joined WSVN 7 in Miami in 1996, where she co-anchored the morning news show, Today in Florida for 24 years.

“By far, being on the anchor set during the 9/11 tragedy, had the greatest impact on me,” Cruz said. “I learned so much about humanity. I was humbled by the strength and resilience of our nation.”

Christine has a bachelor’s degree in communication and a master’s degree in global strategic communication. She obtained both at Florida International University.

Christine loves being a mom to Lucas and Leah, who both attend college in Miami, and cheering on App State football, where her husband is the offensive coordinator. Christine is an ISSA Certified Fitness Instructor, and has worked as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. She has a playful pup at home, Lucy, who loves to play fetch and watch Netflix.

Christine’s grandparents fled Castro’s Cuba at the height of the Cuban revolution in the early 1960s. Her mom was just a teenager when she came to Miami from Cuba. “I respect my grandfather so much for what he did so his family could have a better life,” Cruz said. “To pick up and leave everything you have ever known, to flee an oppressive regime, and come to a country where you don’t know anyone, you don’t even know the language, and yet make it work, that’s beyond admirable.”

Christine sums up who she is like this: “Everything that is good about me, my family instilled in me. People often ask me what it takes to have longevity in the business.  The answer is simple: be reliable, but above all, be nice. People will forget an on-air faux pas, a lot quicker than they will forget a bad attitude!”
