Body of missing college student Riley Strain recovered from river near Nashville

FEBRUARY. A UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI STUDENT HAS NOW BEEN MISSING FOR NEARLY TWO WEEKS. SOMEONE FOUND HIS BANK CARD ON THE EMBANKMENT OF A NASHVILLE RIVER WHERE 22 YEAR OLD RILEY STRAIN WAS LAST SEEN. NOW, BEFORE HE WENT MISSING, STRAIN WAS KICKED OUT OF A BAR IN NASHVILLE’S BROADWAY AREA. NOW THE TENNESSEE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE COMMISSION IS INVESTIGATING WHETHER BARTENDERS OVERSERVED HIM KMBC NINE’S PEYTON HEADLEE TALKED TO A LOCAL ATTORNEY ABOUT THE LIABILITY IN A CASE LIKE THIS, IT’S HARD TO SAY WHETHER OR NOT THERE CAN ACTUALLY BE A CASE AGAINST THE BAR HERE, CRIMINAL OR CIVIL, UNTIL THEY KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO RILEY STRAIN. SPECIFICALLY, WHAT KIND OF DAMAGES THEY COULD BE LOOKING AT. STRAIN HAD LAST BEEN SEEN AT THE LUKE BRYAN’S BAR. THEY RELEASED A STATEMENT SAYING THEY REVIEWED SECURITY CAMERA FOOTAGE, PHOTOS, TRANSACTION RECORDS AND STAFF ACCOUNTS. THEY DETERMINED THAT STRAIN HAD ONE ALCOHOLIC DRINK AND TWO WATERS. WHILE AT THEIR BAR, THEY SAY SECURITY DECIDED TO REMOVE HIM BASED ON WHAT THEY CALLED CONDUCT STANDARDS, AS THERE ARE NO RULES TO GOVERN. ESCORTING DRUNK PEOPLE FROM BUSINESSES OR HELPING THEM TO GET HOME. BUT STATE LAW PROHIBITS SERVING ALCOHOL TO SOMEONE WHO IS VISIBLY INTOXICATED. EVERY STATE HAS THOSE LAWS ON THE BOOKS. Police in Tennessee on Friday announced that Riley Strain, a University of Missouri student who went missing in Nashville for nearly two weeks, has been found dead.

Metro Nashville police officials confirmed that Strain's body had been recovered from the Cumberland River approximately 8 miles west of downtown.

“No foul play-related trauma was observed,” the police posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “An autopsy is pending.”

On Tuesday, MNPD released a body-cam video that shows an officer having a brief exchange with Strain, 22, in downtown Nashville. The brief greeting happened shortly before he went missing around 10 p.m. on March 8.
