WATCH: Rain arrives late Friday, some heavy
BEAUTIFUL WEATHER TODAY. YES, IT WAS. TOOK US A LITTLE BIT TO GET GOING, LAINEY, BUT NOT NOT BAD. AND LOVING THAT EXTRA DAYLIGHT IN THE EVENING HOURS. SUCH A DIFFERENCE. YEAH, IT DEFINITELY DOES. YOU CAN SEE THE SUNSHINE ACROSS THE AREA AND THAT IS GOING TO FADE AWAY TOMORROW. SO YOU STILL HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME TO ENJOY THAT THIS EVENING BEFORE THE SUN GOES DOWN A LITTLE BIT COOLER OUT THERE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY. SOME MID 60S AROUND 64 IN GREENSBORO, 65 IN REIDSVILLE, ASHEBORO AT 66. AND NORTH WILKESBORO AT 64. NOW, I DO THINK WITH CLOUDS COMING IN TONIGHT AND DURING THE DAY TOMORROW, YOU STILL HAVE SOME DRY HOURS TOMORROW BEFORE THE RAIN MOVES IN. IT DOESN’T MOVE IN UNTIL LATE FRIDAY TOWARD THE DINNER HOUR CONTINUES FRIDAY NIGHT AS WELL AS EARLY SATURDAY. THEY COULD HAVE SOME HEAVY DOWNPOURS, AND WE’RE LOOKING AT RAINFALL TOTALS THAT ARE EASILY CLOSE TO AN INCH AND IN SOME CASES WILL BE MORE THAN THAT WITH SOME LINGERING SHOWERS. SATURDAY AFTERNOON. RIGHT NOW, WE DO HAVE THE CLEAR SKIES ACROSS THE REGION. WE’VE GOT A FEW PATCHY CLOUDS KIND OF SPILLING INTO THE MOUNTAINS RIGHT NOW, BUT THIS IS THE MAIN STORM SYSTEM DOWN TO THE SOUTH AND WEST ALONG THE GULF COAST. THERE IS A HEAVY RAIN RIGHT NOW. THANKFULLY NOT A LOT OF SEVERE WEATHER WITH THIS SYSTEM. IT’S A CHANCE FOR AT LEAST A FEW ISOLATED STORMS OVER PARTS OF TEXAS. AND THEN JUST GENERAL THUNDERSTORMS WITH A LITTLE BIT OF THUNDER AND LIGHTNING ALONG. I 95 I-20 THAT IS FOR TOMORROW. THERE IS A BETTER CHANCE, THOUGH, THAT WE COULD SEE EXCESSIVE RAIN. AS I MENTIONED, EASILY AN INCH OF RAIN COULD BE MORE THAN THAT IN SOME COMMUNITIES WHERE WE DO GET SOME OF THOSE HEAVIER DOWNPOURS. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE FORECAST MODEL OUTPUTS HERE, SHOWING YOU ABOUT AN INCH WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE AREA. SO AGAIN THE CLOUDS GET THICK BY EARLY TOMORROW MORNING. WE START IN THE UPPER 30S IN THE TRIAD BY LUNCHTIME IT IS PRETTY OVERCAST. AND WE’RE ALSO GOING TO HAVE A COOL BREEZE TOMORROW THAT’S COMING IN OFF THE ATLANTIC. SO I DO THINK IT’S GOING TO FEEL A BIT RAW OUT THERE. AND THEN BY LATE DAY WE’LL SEE SOME OF THAT RAIN KIND OF PUSHING IN. IT’S PRETTY STEADY BY ABOUT EIGHT, 9:00 AND THEN IT GETS HEAVY LATE NIGHT OVERNIGHT AND THEN INTO THE EARLY PART OF THE DAY ON SATURDAY WHEN WE EXPECT SOME OF THE HEAVIEST RAINS TO BE COMING DOWN. SO HERE’S YOUR 12 HOUR FORECAST. CHILLY AND DRY WITH CLOUDS IN THE MORNING WARMING UP ONLY INTO THE MID 50S. I SUSPECT TOMORROW AFTERNOON. AND PART OF THE REASON IS BECAUSE OF THAT EASTERLY BREEZE AND BECAUSE OF THE OVERCAST SKIES. RAIN REALLY STARTS TO BUILD IN TOWARDS SUNDOWN. FOR THE FOOTHILLS, YOU’VE GOT A HIGH OF 55 TOMORROW AFTERNOON, MORNING TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER 30S. ALSO LOOKING FOR THAT RAIN TO BE TOWARD DINNERTIME TIME. HIGH TEMPS IN THE UPPER 40S FOR THE MOUNTAINS. THE CHILLY SOUTHEAST BREEZE, MAYBE SOME PATCHY LIGHT RAIN EARLY, AND THEN THE STEADIER RAINS LATE IN THE DAY. AND YOU NOTICE WE DO HAVE WET WEATHER CONTINUING SATURDAY. AND BUT THE MOUNTAINS OF FOOTHILLS AND EVEN IN THE PIEDMONT TRIAD. SO YOU LOOK AT THIS WEATHER MAP FOR EARLY SATURDAY AND THERE’S HEAVY RAINS, I THINK THROUGH AT LEAST LUNCHTIME TIME, MAYBE A FEW SHOWERS IN THE AFTERNOON. BOONE. BUT IF YOU’RE PLANNING FOR SATURDAY, I DO THINK YOU COULD GET SOME DRIER SKIES BY THE LATTER HALF OF THE DAY. AND THEN IT’S CHILLY AGAIN SUNDAY MORNING. WE’RE BACK IN THE 30S, AND SUNDAY ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE A PRETTY PLEASAN
