GPD urges residents to call Gun Stoppers after more than 70 rounds from multiple firearms were found on Sunday
TEENS TOMORROW MORNING. NEW TONIGHT. RESIDENTS ARE FRUSTRATED AND SCARED AFTER MORE THAN 70 SHOTS WERE FIRED IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD. LET’S PUT THIS ON THE MAP. THIS HAPPENED JUST BEFORE 830 LAST NIGHT NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF BERRYMAN AND CALVERT STREETS. THERE IN GREENSBORO KARA PETERS JOINS US LIVE FROM POLICE HEADQUARTERS TONIGHT. KARA. VERY SCARY NIGHT FOR THOSE NEIGHBORS. YEAH. DEVONTE. VERY SCARY. TODAY. I SPOKE WITH NEIGHBORS WHO HAVE BEEN LIVING ON THEIR STREET FOR MORE THAN TEN YEARS. AND THEY SAY THAT AFTER LAST NIGHT’S SHOOTING, THEY’RE STARTING TO QUESTION THEIR SAFETY. JUST LIKE THAT’S WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE. IT’S LIKE SOMETHING YOU SEE ON TV. THAT’S HOW NEIGHBORS DESCRIBE WHAT THEY HEARD AS SHOTS WENT OFF. JUST A FEW FEET FROM WHERE THEY LIVE ON BERRYMAN STREET, ACCORDING TO POLICE. AT LEAST FOUR DIFFERENT GUNS WERE USED TO FIRE MORE THAN 70 SHOTS SUNDAY NIGHT. THREE HOMES WERE HIT BY GUNFIRE, INCLUDING THIS ONE. I’M TOTALLY SHOCKED THAT DIDN’T GO IN OUR HOUSE RIGHT? OR ANYBODY’S HOUSE AROUND HERE. IT WAS SO MANY ROUNDS. I FIRST THOUGHT IT WAS FIRECRACKERS. SOMEONE DOING SAINT PATRICK’S, AND THEN I WAS LIKE, LET ME OPEN A DOOR. AND I THOUGHT, WHAT? WHAT? AND I MEAN, IT WAS LIKE, OKAY, DO WE NEED TO GET ON THE FLOOR? RESIDENTS TELL ME IT’S COMMON TO HEAR GUNSHOTS ON THEIR STREET. ONE BIG WORRY THEY HAVE IS THE NUMBER OF YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE AREA. CHILDREN PLAYING ON THE PLAYGROUND. IT’S JUST IT’S JUST NOT NORMAL. THE GREENSBORO POLICE DEPARTMENT IS ASKING RESIDENTS TO HELP THEM IN GETTING ILLEGAL GUNS OFF THE STREETS, GUN STOPPERS PAYS A MINIMUM OF $250 TO ANYONE WHO ANONYMOUSLY REPORTS AN ILLEGAL GUN, AS LONG AS THAT TIP LEADS TO AN ARREST OR HELPS POLICE FIND THE GUN. HOLMES SAYS SHE SUPPORTS ANYTHING THAT WILL MAKE THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD SAFE AGAIN. IF YOU HAVE A GUN AND YOU’RE LEGAL, YOU KNOW THAT’S GOOD. BUT IF YOU’RE NOT LEGAL, YEAH, YOU NEED TO TAKE THE GUN AWAY FROM THEM BECAUSE IT’S GOING TO HURT SOMEBODY. AND I’M TOTALLY SHOCKED IT DIDN’T HURT SOMEBODY OVER THERE YESTERDAY. IT WAS SCARY. AND AND POLICE HAVE NOT TOLD US ANY INFORMATION ON A SUSPECT YET. AND WHILE RESIDENTS DO CREDIT HOW QUICKLY POLICE CAME AFTER THOSE SHOTS WERE FIRED, THEY’RE STILL HOPING THAT MOVING FORWARD THERE’S MORE VISIBILITY TO PREVENT ANY INCIDENTS LIKE THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. I’M LIVE TONIGHT
