THANK YOU FOR STAYING WITH US. THERE ARE SOME FUN, FAMILY, FUN HEADED TO KERNERSVILLE. THE KIWANIS CLUB IS HOSTING ITS ANNUAL TOUCH A TRUCK EVENT THIS SATURDAY. GREAT EVENT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY. HERE TO TELL US MORE IS LEE CANNON. SHE IS THE EVENT CHAIRPERSON. GOOD MORNING LEE, THANK YOU FOR JOINING US. GOOD MORNING. THANK YOU. SO FIRST SHARE WITH ME THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE KIWANIS HOLDING THIS ANNUAL EVENT. SO WE WANTED TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT THE WHOLE COMMUNITY CAN PARTICIPATE IN. AND MAYBE EVEN GET SOME LEARNING FROM. SO AND ALL CHILDREN SEEM TO LOVE TRUCKS OF ALL DIFFERENT TYPES AND WANTING TO GET UP CLOSE AND SEE HOW THEY WORK AND PRETEND THAT THEY’RE DRIVING THEM. SO WE THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO INCLUDE THE COMMUNITY AND ALLOW KIDS THAT OPPORTUNITY. SO. SO THEY DO. LOVE STARTED DOING THIS. TELL US THE SORTS OF VEHICLES AND OTHER THINGS THAT THEY’LL BE ABLE TO SEE UP CLOSE AND PERSONALLY. SO THIS YEAR WE HAVE OVER 50 VEHICLES THAT WILL BE THERE. EVERYTHING FROM A, A, UH, FISHING BOATS, ALL THE WAY TO SOME SEMI TRUCKS. WE HAVE, UM, GARBAGE TRUCKS, WE HAVE RECYCLING TRUCKS, SOME SERVICE VEHICLES FROM UM LOCAL PLUMBERS AND HVAC SYSTEMS, EMS, ALL DIFFERENT TYPES OF BUSSES AS WELL. AND OUR BIG ONE THIS YEAR IS THE OSCAR MAYER WIENERMOBILE WILL BE THERE AS WELL. SO WE’RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT SEEING THAT TOO. THAT WILL BE A HIT. I’M SURE. TELL US ABOUT THE GIVEAWAY HAPPENING TO WHAT IS THAT ENTAIL? SO WE UM, AS KIWANIS, WE’RE TRYING TO PROMOTE LITERACY IN OUR COMMUNITY. SO WE HAVE ABOUT 700 BOOKS THAT WE’RE GOING TO GIVE OUT TO THE FIRST 700 KIDS THAT COME THERE EVERY, UM, PRETTY MUCH FROM KINDERGARTEN TO ABOUT AGE, UM, OR THIRD OR FOURTH GRADE. SO, SO,UM, AND THEY GET TO CHOOSE THE ONE THAT THEY WANT, AND WE HOPE THEY ENJOY IT. 700 BOOKS. THAT IS A LARGE AMOUNT. THAT’S WONDERFUL. AND WE ALSO HEAR THAT THE KIWANIS ARE PROMOTING LITERACY IN LOCAL SCHOOLS. THIS IS AN ONGOING EFFORT. WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE MORE ABOUT THAT? YEAH. SO BY THE END OF THIS SCHOOL YEAR, WE’LL HAVE, UM, SET UP BOOKCASES IN FIVE KERNERSVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, AND WE PROVIDE THOSE FULL OF BOOKS TO THE SCHOOLS. SO THEY CAN USE IT FOR WHAT THEY’D LIKE TO USE IT FOR, TO PROMOTE ACTIVITIES WITHIN THEIR SCHOOL. MOST ARE DOING IT FOR, UM, UH, ATTENDANCE AS WELL AS CITIZENSHIP, UM, IN THEIR SCHOOLS. SO I THINK IN TOTAL THIS YEAR, WE’VE GIVEN AWAY UM, AROUND, UH, 6000 BOOKS. OH MY GOODNESS, THAT’S FANTASTIC. LEE I’M SO GLAD YOU GOT TO MENTION THAT. NOW FOR THE TOUCH-A-TRUCK EVENT. THIS IS A FREE EVENT, RIGHT? YES. SO IT IS COMPLETELY FREE FOR PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE AS WELL AS FOR THE TRUCKS TO BE THERE. YEAH, THAT AND YOU JUST WANT PEOPLE TO SHOW UP, RIGHT? YOU JUST WANT TO ENCOURAGE FAMILIES TO COME ON OUT THIS SATURDAY. IT’S FROM TEN UNTIL TWO ON NORTH PARK DRIVE. IS IT JUST A BIG PARKING LOT? IT’S KIND OF WHERE YOU SET UP. YES. IT’S, UM. RIGHT. IT’S AT THE JOHN DEERE FACILITY, UM, IN KERNERSVILLE. OKAY. SO WE’LL OF COURSE HAVE EXCAVATORS AS WELL. UM, TO SEE FUN. THAT’S REALLY WONDERFUL. LEE ANY PART THAT’S RIGHT OFF OF WEST MOUNTAIN STREET.
