THE WXII 2 NEWSROOM IS FOLLOWING THIS MORNING. HAPPENING TODAY. REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION ARE VISITING A LOCAL SCHOOL IN THE TRIAD. LEADERS WITH WINSTON-SALEM, FORSYTH COUNTY SCHOOLS ANNOUNCED STAFF FROM THE DEPARTMENTS OFFICE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE ACQUISITION WILL VISIT EAST FORSYTH MIDDLE SCHOOL TO LEARN ABOUT THE SCHOOL’S DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAM. AT LAST CHECK, THE DISTRICT SAYS NORTH CAROLINA RANKS AMONG THE TOP FIVE STATES IN THE COUNTRY FOR HAVING THE MOST DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION PROGRAMS. A FEDERAL TRIAL OVER NORTH CAROLINA’S VOTER ID LAW IS NOW SET FOR MAY. A U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE REFUSED TO END EFFORTS BY CIVIL RIGHTS GROUPS THAT SUED OVER ALLEGATIONS THAT THE LAW IS TAINTED BY RACIAL BIAS. THE JUDGE DENIED A SUMMARY JUDGMENT MOTION FOR MEMBERS OF THE STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS, WHICH IS IMPLEMENTING THE LAW. THAT MOTION SOUGHT A CASE VICTORY WITHOUT A TRIAL, PHOTO ID WAS REQUIRED, STARTING WITH LAST FALL’S MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS. AND LASTLY, THIS MORNING, A NEW RESOURCE IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR EMPLOYERS AND POTENTIAL EMPLOYEES, AS FORSYTH WORKS IS AN ONLINE PLATFORM WHERE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN FORSYTH COUNTY CAN ACCESS A VARIETY OF WORKFORCE INFORMATION ON CERTAIN INDUSTRIES LIKE AVIATION, ADVANCED MANUFACTURING, AND TECHNOLOGY. SEVERAL ORGANIZATIONS CAME TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS PROGRAM POSSIB

Investigators said Steinhoff was at the home to pick up her sister's 14-month-old child, who had spent the weekend with his father, Dorian Thomas, 50.
