Something exploded in the back of a home on Peachtree Street in Winston-Salem Tuesday afternoon, causing a fire.
Winston-Salem Police Officers were on the scene within seconds to help the family get out safely. They were already in the area responding to a shooting on Peachtree Street.
“Yesterday it was my daughters birthday. I went to take her pizza and to give her gift at school when I got the call that my house was on fire," Shante Miller, mother of four said.

Miller's babysitter, three-year-old son and pets were all inside but all got out safely.
“It could have been way worse," Miller said.
Miller believes a stray bullet hitting an ATV that was against the back of their house caused the fire.
"That’s the only thing we could say happened because the gas was off and it was under a tarp and it wasn’t in the sun," Miller said.

"It’s sad because there's a mother who has to pick up the broken pieces," Gist said.
Gist added, “show some love to this family, pour some love on them and we will make sure that the donations get to them."
Miller has four kids ranging in ages from 3 months, to 13 years old. She says diapers, clothes and necessities would help. "Anything would help. Would just be grateful for anything. It doesn’t have to be a lot, I appreciate anything I can get," Miller said.
