LAWMAKERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT TO ACCESS THE DATA OF TIKTOK’S 170 MILLION PLUS AMERICAN USERS. SOME ARE ALSO WORRIED ABOUT TIKTOK’S INFLUENCE ON YOUNG PEOPLE’S MENTAL HEALTH. OPPONENTS NOW ARGUE THIS BAN WOULD VIOLATE FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS FOR USERS. IT COULD ALSO HARM THOUSANDS OF SMALL BUSINESSES WHICH RELY ON IT. BUT ONE FORMER GOOGLE EXECUTIVE POINTED. OUT CHINA’S VERSION OF THE APP IS MUCH DIFFERENT. THEY SHOW YOU SCIENCE EXPERIMENTS. THEY SAY THE COMPANY IS CONTRIBUTED TO A YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS. A DAYCARE AND HIGH POINT COULD HAVE TO PAY UP TO $50,000 IN REPAIRS AFTER A FIRE BROKE OUT THIS MORNING. THAT’S ACCORDING TO THE HIGH POINT FIRE DEPARTMENT. NO ONE WAS HURT IN THE FIRE, WHICH STARTED JUST BEFORE SEVEN AT THE STALEY CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER. KITCHEN STAFF MEMBERS WERE INSIDE AT THE TIME, BUT DID GET OUT SAFELY, ACCORDING TO FIREFIGHTERS. FLAMES WERE CONFINED TO THE ROOF AREA FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT IS STILL INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE AS NOW. THIS HAPPENED ON BRENTWOOD STREET. A GREENSBORO MOTHER FACING MURDER CHARGES. IN CONNECTION TO A HOUSE FIRE THAT KILLED HER THREE CHILDREN IN 2022, APPEARED IN COURT. ALL THREE CHILDREN WERE YOUNGER THAN FIVE YEARS OLD AND WERE LEFT HOME, ALONE AND TRAPPED IN A BEDROOM WHEN THAT FIRE BROKE OUT, BRANDI STURDIVANT. WAS IN PRISON FOR THE LAST 14 MONTHS. A JUDGE SET BOND AT $1 MILLION. INVESTIGATORS SAY THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES GOT A CALL WEEKS BEFORE THE DEADLY FIRE, SAYING THE CHILDREN WERE REGULARLY LEFT HOME ALONE. POLICE SAY STURDIVANT ADMITTED TO USING THE OVEN TO HEAT THE HOME. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO PINPOINT WHAT CAUSED THAT FIRE. A SUSPECT IS NOW RECOVERING FROM THEIR INJURIES IN JAIL AFTER SURRY COUNTY DEPUTIES SHOT HIM. 62 YEAR-OLD ALAN BEAMAN FACES SIX CHARGES, INCLUDING ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON IN THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS IT RESPONDED TO A. CALL ABOUT A FALL AND A MAN THREATENING TO HARM HIMSELF AT A HOME IN PILOT MOUNTAIN. DEPUTIES TELL US BEAMAN FIRED HIS GUN AT THEM AS THEY ARRIVED, AND DEPUTIES RETURNED FIRE, HITTING BEAMAN. NO DEPUTIES WERE SHOT AND THOSE INVOLVED HAVE BEEN PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE. LAST NIGHT IN EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA, COMMUNITY HELD A VIGIL TO HONOR A STUDENT WHO WAS KILLED EARLIER THIS MONTH. THE SHOOTING, WHICH TOOK PLACE NEAR THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT PEMBROKE, ALSO KILLED ONE OTHER PERSON AND INJURED FOUR PEOPLE. THAT’S ACCORDING TO OUR NBC AFFILIATE, WRAL.
