Construction is underway in Burlington for a new 17-court pickleball complex at City Park, as well as six permanent pickleball courts at Fairchild Park.
City leaders say the Burlington Pickleball Complex, near the Burlington Tennis Center at City Park, will include one shaded Championship Court, bleachers for spectators, and new restrooms.
Two tennis courts are being converted to six pickleball courts at Fairchild Park. Seating and shade structures will be built there as well.
City leaders say this project is part of their sports tourism efforts. They hope it will help make Burlington a destination for the regional athletic tournament play, which, in turn, can help generate revenue for local businesses.
City officials tell us construction has started at both locations. The city hopes to have them open in the fall.
