Updated: 10:43 AM EDT Mar 11, 2024
PLACING ANY BETS. GOOD MORNING. NOW AT SIX, CLEANUP CONTINUES IN SEVERAL CITIES ACROSS THE EAST COAST. FOLLOWING WEEKEND STORMS. THEY BROUGHT IN HEAVY RAINS, HIGH WINDS, AND EVEN SNOW SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY MORNING IN SOUTH CAROLINA, HEAVY RAINS TRIGGERED MAJOR FLOODING IN CHARLESTON ON SATURDAY, RESULTING IN OFFICIALS CLOSING DOZENS OF STREETS THERE IN LOW LYING AREAS, AND CONDITIONS WORSENED DURING HIGH TIDE IN NORTH CAROLINA, THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY IS REPORTING MORE THAN 2000 CUSTOMERS ARE WITHOUT POWER THIS MORNING. THAT’S DOWN FROM NEARLY 8000 EARLIER. SO SOME GOOD NEWS THERE FOR OUR AREA. STILL SOME OUTAGES TO REPORT, BUT LESS THAN 100 IN SURRY, ALAMANCE AND FORSYTH COUNTIES EACH SO WANT TO BRING IN METEOROLOGIST DYLAN HUDLER. NOW FOR A CLOSER LOOK AT OUR FORECAST TODAY. THANKFULLY QUIETER TODAY. YEAH, YEAH, THANKFULLY QUIETER. ALL THOSE OUTAGES ARE FROM THE RAIN WE GOT ON SATURDAY AND THEN THE WIND YESTERDAY. SO WITH THAT, THE SATURATED SOIL AND THEN THOSE GUSTY WINDS, WE HAD A 41 MILE PER HOUR GUST YESTERDAY AT PTI. SO CERTAINLY I’M SURE TREES COMING DOWN CAUSING SOME OUTAGES. THINGS SHOULD BEGIN TO IMPROVE IN THAT DEPARTMENT TODAY. STILL DARK OUTSIDE. I WANTED TO POINT THIS OUT BECAUSE USUALLY AT THIS TIME OF THE SHOW, WE’RE STARTING TO SEE THE SUN PEEK UP ON THE HORIZON AND THE SKY BECOME A BIT MORE LIGHT OUTSIDE. BUT NOW, WITH DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME NOT SEEING THAT ANYMORE, IT IS CERTAINLY COLD OUT THERE AS WELL. WIND CHILLS UP IN THE MOUNTAINS IN THE TEENS RIGHT NOW WITH THOSE GUSTY WINDS BLOWING AND THE CHILLY AIR MOVING IN BEHIND. YESTERDAY’S DRY COLD FRONT, IT FEELS LIKE 12 DEGREES IN JEFFERSON RIGHT NOW. SO FAR TODAY, WE’VE HAD GUSTS AROUND 20 TO 30MPH. THESE WILL BEGIN TO BACK OFF. THEY’RE A BIT MORE GUSTY UP IN THE MOUNTAINS. 43 IN SPARTA EARLIER THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURES ACROSS THE AREA ARE IN THE MID TO UPPER 30S RIGHT NOW. SO WE ARE COOLING DOWN THANKS TO THOSE CLEAR SKIES. WE SHOULD BOTTOM OUT SOMEWHERE RIGHT AROUND FREEZING HERE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS ONCE THE SUN BEGINS TO COME UP, BUT STILL CERTAINLY A CHILLY START TO THE DAY. IT IS WINDY OUT IN THE FOOTHILLS AND MOUNTAINS. THAT’S WHY WE HAVE A WIND ADVISORY AND HIGH WIND WARNING STILL IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON TODAY. THIS AFTERNOON, THE THINKING IS THAT WIND GUSTS SHOULD BEGIN TO DIE DOWN JUST A BIT. IT’S STILL A BREEZY AFTERNOON FOR THE PIEDMONT TRIAD, BUT STILL NOTHING COMPARED TO WHAT WE SAW YESTERDAY. WE’LL BE IN THE UPPER 50S TO NEAR 60 LATER ON TODAY. LOTS OF SUNSHINE IN THE FORECAST, BUT STILL UPPER 50S AND A BREEZE IS STILL A LITTLE BIT COOL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. THE GOOD NEWS IS WE’RE TRENDING DRY AND WARMER FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. I’M GOING TO BREAK DOWN THE FORECAST AND HELP YOU PLAN OUT YOUR WEEK. COMING UP, I’M ADRIANNA HARGROVE WITH A LOOK AT YOUR TRAFFIC THIS MORNING. NOW WE LOST AN HOUR OF SLEEP DUE TO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME, SO CERTAINLY GRAB A CUP OF COFFEE BEFORE YOU GET BEHIND THE WHEEL THIS MORNING. AND YOU CAN TAKE YOUR TIME SIPPING THAT MORNING COFFEE, BECAUSE THERE’S STILL NO SLOWDOWNS OR CRASHES IN THE PIEDMONT TRIAD TO WORRY ABOUT AT THIS TIME. NOW, LET’S TAKE A LIVE LOOK OUT THERE AT THE ROADS. THIS IS I-70 THREE NORTH AT BRADFORD PARKWAY IN GREENS BRO. STILL LOOKING GOOD OUT THERE ON THAT STRETCH. SAFE TRAVELS EVERYONE. LOOKING AHEAD. LEGAL SPORTS BETTING STARTS TODAY AT NOON HERE IN NORTH CAROLINA. WE ARE THE 38TH STATE IN THE COUNTRY TO LEGALIZE SPORTS GAMBLING AND THE 30TH TO ALLOW FOR MOBILE GAMBLING. USERS WILL BE ABLE TO PLACE THEIR BETS ONLINE FOR BOTH COLLEGE AND PROFESSIONAL SPORTS, USING ONE OF THE STATE’S EIGHT LICENSED OPERATORS. THIS COMES JUST ONE DAY BEFORE THE ACC MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT BEGINS. STICK AROUND IN OUR NEXT HALF HOUR TO HEAR FROM EXCITED FANS AS THE COUNTDOWN TO LEGAL SPORTS GAMBLING CONTINUES. AS. TIME NOW. 604. THE RANDOLPH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS A NORTH CAROLINA MAN IS REUNITED WITH HIS FAMILY AFTER HE WAS REPORTED MISSING NEARLY A MONTH AGO. DEPUTIES SAY 43 YEAR OLD CRAIG COX WAS FOUND IN HOOVER, ALABAMA, OVER THE WEEKEND AFTER HE WENT MISSING ON FEBRUARY 12TH. THEY SAY A FRIEND OF THE COX FAMILY WHO LIVES IN HOOVER HELPED FIND HIM. INVESTIGATORS SAY COX WAS SPOTTED IN TEXAS AND MEXICO BEFORE HE WAS FOUND. A MEBANE MAN IS FACING CHARGES AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING A PREGNANT WOMAN. THIS HAPPENED NEAR MEBANE OAKS ROAD LAST TUESDAY. THE ALAMANCE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THIS MAN, 32, YEAR-OLD CALEB DUNMAN, IS FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING FELONY ASSAULT, INFLICTING SERIOUS INJURY AND MISDEMEANOR ASSAULT ON A PREGNANT WOMAN. DETECTIVES SAY THE VICTIM WAS 38 WEEKS PREGNANT AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. SO FAR, NO WORD ON HER OR HER BABY’S CONDITION. DUNMAN IS CURRENTLY IN JAIL WITH NO BOND. ELECTRIC TEQUILA AND GREENSBORO HAS OFFICIALLY STOPPED BUSINESS. THE BAR HAS MOVED OUT OF ITS SPACE ON BATTLEGROUND AVENUE. THIS COMES AFTER TWO PEOPLE WERE SHOT OUTSIDE THE BAR IN NOVEMBER. THE OWNER, 41 YEAR-OLD BOBBY BONES, IS CURRENTLY FACING MULTIPLE CHARGES, INCLUDING ALLOWING FIGHTING AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE VIOLATIONS. GREENSBORO MAYOR SAYS SHE WANTS TO MEET WITH COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS NOW ABOUT HOLDING NIGHTCLUBS MORE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CUSTOMER SAFETY. FOR YEARS I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT THAT WE NEED TO HAVE A SAFETY ORDINANCE TO HOLD PEOPLE ACCOUNTABLE AND WHETHER IT IS A PROMOTER, A PROPERTY OWNER, A MANAGER, THERE NEEDS TO BE ACCOUNTABILITY. AS I SAID EARLIER, WE NEED TO KNOW THAT WHEN PEOPLE ARE OUT THAT THEY ARE IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. PITT AND WE REACHED OUT TO ELECTRIC TEQUILA’S OWNER, BOLEN’S, FOR COMMENT BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK. THERE WAS ALSO A DEADLY SHOOTING AT THE CULTURE LOUNGE ON SPRING GARDEN STREET IN GREENSBORO ON FRIDAY. THAT MARKS THE CITY’S 10TH HOMICIDE SO FAR THIS YEAR. MAYOR VAUG
