Barber says a $1,000 tip from a customer is 'a blessing'

The man left the tip on a $30 haircut

LESSON FOR. BARBER CHRIS DAVIS. IT’S NONSTOP ON SATURDAY MORNINGS, CLIENT AFTER CLIENT AT MIKE GOUSHA BEAUTY SALON IN WAUKESHA. LIKE I SAID, IT WAS A COMPLETELY FULL DAY. DAVIS HAS BEEN WORKING HERE FOR NINE YEARS. I JUST LIKE MAKING PEOPLE FEEL GOOD. IT’S JUST THE WHEN I TURN THEM AROUND IN THE CHAIR AND THEY FEEL GOOD ABOUT THEMSELVES. AND BY NOW, HIS REGULARS ARE MORE THAN CLIENTS. SOMETIMES I DON’T EVEN FEEL LIKE I’M AT WORK. I JUST FEEL LIKE I’M HANGING OUT WITH SOME FRIENDS. BUT THE WALK IN CUSTOMER WHO STOPPED BY LAST WEEKEND WASN’T A REGULAR. I ASKED HIM WHAT HE WAS DOING BECAUSE HE HAD A SUIT ON, SO I ASSUMED, YOU KNOW, HE HAD A WEDDING OR SOMETHING. DAVIS SQUEEZED THE CUSTOMER INTO HIS SCHEDULE ONCE HE LEARNED THE MAN WAS A PREACHER, HE WAS GOING TO SAINT JUDE’S DOWN IN CHICAGO TO PRAY WITH THE CHILDREN. IT WAS A $30 HAIRCUT THAT TOOK JUST TEN MINUTES. DAVIS DIDN’T SEE THE TIP UNTIL AFTER THE MAN LEFT. MY HEART DROPPED RIGHT AWAY AND I WISH I COULD HAVE WENT OUT AND THANKED HIM, BUT HE WAS ALREADY GONE. $1,000 ADDED TO THE BILL. TIP LIKE THAT IS SO UNHEARD OF. YOU KNOW, THAT’S JUST A BLESSING RIGHT THERE. A BLESSING AND A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS THAT DAVIS SAYS. THERE YOU GO, HOMEY. HE HOPES TO PAY FORWARD. IT JUST LETS ME KNOW THAT THERE’S REALLY GOOD PEOPLE IN THE WORLD THAT DO A LOT OF GOOD THINGS FOR OTHER PEOPLE. IT JUST MAKES ME CONTINUE TO WANT TO MAKE PEOPLE FEEL GOOD MYSELF. DAVIS TELLS US THAT HE SPENT SOME OF THE MONEY ON GROCERIES AND WAS ABLE TO GET A VIDEO GAME FOR HIS SON. AS FOR THAT MAN WHO LEFT THE THOUSAND DOLLAR TIP, WE’RE TOLD THAT TONIGHT THAT HE WANTS TO REMAIN ANONYMOUS.
