Chilly winds dry out the Carolinas Sunday

OH MY GOODNESS LAINEY, LIL COACH BESS IS NOT ONE TO PLAY WITH. NO AT ALL. HE’S HAVING SUCH A GOOD TIME AND IT’S A VERY POSITIVE STORY. LIKE THEY SAID, WE LOVE IT WHEN THERE’S NOT A LOT OF THAT. SOMETIMES, SO. WELL, I DON’T KNOW IF FOLKS WANT TO HEAR ABOUT FREEZING TEMPERATURES. I DON’T THINK THEY DO. I KNOW WE WANT TO MOVE PAST THAT. RIGHT. AND SOME OF YOU HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF A SLEEP HANGOVER AFTER LOSING AN HOUR OF SLEEP OUT THERE TODAY, BUT WE DO HAVE MORE SUNSHINE THAT CONTINUES EVEN AT THIS HOUR. AND YOU CAN SEE OUR BELEWS LAKE A NICE AFTERNOON. IT WAS WINDY THOUGH, WINDS STRONG. IN FACT, THEY’RE GOING TO STAY UP THROUGH THE DAY TOMORROW. THEY WON’T BE QUITE AS STRONG, BUT JUST GO AHEAD AND ANTICIPATE A BREEZY DAY. ALSO ANTICIPATE MORE SUNSHINE IN THE FORECAST HEADING INTO TOMORROW. CHECK OUT THE TEMPERATURES RIGHT NOW. THEY’RE A LITTLE COOL. IN FACT, COOLER THAN NORMAL. WE’RE AT 52 IN HIGH POINT, 51 IN GREENSBORO, AS WELL AS KING. OUR MOUNTAIN TEMPERATURES ARE IN THE 40S, RIGHT NOW. THE HIGH THIS AFTERNOON, 55 DEGREES. SO BY THIS TIME IN MARCH, WE’RE USUALLY CLOSE TO 60 FOR AN AVERAGE HIGH. AND OUR MORNING AVERAGE IS USUALLY IN THE UPPER 30S. SO WE CAN STILL GET FREEZING TEMPERATURES. TODAY’S HIGHS WERE ACTUALLY IN THE MID 50S ACROSS THE AREA, WITH 51 IN MOUNT AIRY AND 50 IN NORTH WILKESBORO. IT HAS BEEN A MILD WINTER. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE FROM DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY IS THE FOURTH WARMEST ON RECORD. AT 54.3. THAT’S MORE THAN TWO INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. OUR TEMPERATURES THIS WEEK ARE GOING BACK INTO THAT ABOVE NORMAL CATEGORY, SO WE’LL BE CLOSE TO NORMAL TO TOMORROW AND THEN WE’RE IN THE UPPER 60S ON TUESDAY. CHECK THIS OUT. WE’VE GOT LOW TO MID 70S IN THE FORECAST WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. WE ALSO HAVE DRY DAYS AHEAD. SO THIS WEEK IS LOOKING LARGELY DRY. DIDN’T HAVE ANY RAINFALL OUT THERE TODAY FOR THE MONTH. 2.5IN WHICH PUTS US ABOUT AN INCH AND A THIRD OVER OUR NORMAL. AND THESE ARE THE RAINFALL TOTALS FROM YESTERDAY OVER THE LAST 24 HOURS. YOU CAN SEE A LOT OF FOLKS MEASURING MORE THAN AN INCH IN BURLINGTON, WINSTED AND SALEM. GREENSBORO, MOUNT AIRY AND OUR FRONT THAT CREATED A LOT OF THAT RAIN IS NOW OFFSHORE, WITH THE SECOND ONE COMING IN BEHIND IT TO KIND OF REINFORCE THE COOL AIR AND ALSO KICK UP THE WINDS. SO THAT’S WHY WE DO HAVE THAT HIGH WIND WARNING IN THE MOUNTAINS AND THE WIND ADVISORY FOR WILKES SURRY AND THEN UP INTO PATRICK COUNTY. THOSE WIND GUSTS COULD GET TO 60 MILES AN HOUR IN THE WARNING AREA IN THE MOUNTAINS, SO WE COULD HAVE SOME SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES AND SOME DOWNED TREES FROM THAT. THESE ARE THE STRONGEST WINDS THAT HAVE BEEN RECORDED IN THE MOUNTAINS SO FAR TODAY, CLOSE TO 50 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS IN GALAX AND AUGUSTA AND BOONE OF 55. THE GUSTS FROM MOUNT AIRY TO NORTH WILKESBORO IN THAT 35 TO 40 MILE PER HOUR RANGE, AND THE GUSTS RIGHT NOW ARE FROM 25 TO 30. SO THEY’RE COMING DOWN JUST A LITTLE BIT SUSTAINED WINDS OUT OF THE WEST AND NORTHWEST AT ABOUT 15 TO 25 MILES AN HOUR. AND EVEN ACROSS THE PIEDMONT TRIAD, WE’VE GOT SOME PRETTY STRONG GUSTY WINDS. 10 TO 25 MILES AN HOUR. AGAIN, IT’S ALL BECAUSE OF THAT FRONT THAT YOU SEE MOVING THROUGH. SO THESE ARE WIND ADVISORIES HERE. BUT NOTICE THAT THEY’RE CONCERNED ABOUT FREEZING TEMPERATURES WHERE THEY’VE ALREADY ENTERED INTO THE GROWING SEASON. NORTHERN GEORGIA AND NORTHERN ALABAMA. WE DO HAVE FREEZING TEMPS TOMORROW MORNING IN THE PIEDMONT TRIAD. WE’RE GOING TO START OFF AT ABOUT 32. AND WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THAT WIND, THOSE WIND CHILL VALUES ARE LIKELY GOING TO BE IN THE 20S. HIGH TEMPERATURE TOMORROW AFTERNOON, 60 BREEZES AT 10 TO 20 MILES AN HOUR OUT OF THE WEST, A SUNNY AND 60 DEGREE DAY AS WELL IN THE FOOTHILLS AND FOR THE MOUNTAINS. WE’VE GOT SUNSHINE FOR YOU TOMORROW, STARTING OFF AT 28, AND THEN A HIGH OF 58. IF YOU’RE GOING TO BE TRAVELING TOMORROW. A COLD START, BUT LOOK AT THE DRY SKIES, SUNSHINE AND 60S ACROSS THE CAROLINAS. EVEN INTO TUESDAY. WE START OFF CHILLY IN THE 30S, BUT WE HAVE MORE SUNSHINE FOR YOU AND WE’VE GOT HIGHS THAT ARE CLIMBING. ON TUESDAY INTO THE UPPER 60S. WILL BE IN THE LOW 70S BY WEDNESDAY, MID 70S ON THURSDAY. NEXT WEATHER SYSTEM THAT IMPACTS US IS GOING TO BE ON FRIDAY WITH SOME RAIN THAT COULD LINGER INTO THE HOLI
