WORSHIP. TONIGHT IN 12 INVESTIGATES GREENSBORO MAYOR NANCY VAUGHN SAYS THE NOW FORMER CITY MANAGER RESIGNED AFTER A POLICY VIOLATION, AND NOT BECAUSE OF WHAT HAPPENED AT HIS HOME LAST YEAR. TONIGHT, THE MAYOR SAID CITY COUNCIL LEARNED OF THE INTERNAL POLICY VIOLATION LAST WEEK. THAT SAME VIOLATION HAS RESULTED IN OTHER EMPLOYEES BEING FIRED IN THE PAST, SHE SAID, BECAUSE. TAIWO JAIYEOBA IS RESIGNATION IS A PERSONNEL MATTER, SHE CANNOT DISCUSS IT. WHAT WE KNOW TONIGHT IS THAT HE QUICKLY RESIGNED YESTERDAY AND THE COUNCIL VOTED 5 TO 4, APPROVING THE RESIGNATION AND A THREE MONTH SEVERANCE PACKAGE IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS OR SO. UM, I, I APPRECIATE HIS LEADERSHIP. UM, THE NEEDLE HAS MOVED MORE FOR THE COMMUNITY. I REPRESENT THAN EVER BEFORE. I WISH YOU MUCH, MUCH SUCCESS. HE REALLY DID A LOT FOR THE PROGRESS HERE IN GREENSBORO. HIS RESIGNATION COMES AFTER 12 INVESTIGATES LOOKED INTO A911 CALL FROM HIS HOME LAST YEAR. IN DECEMBER, POLICE SAY JAIYEOBA AND HIS TWO DAUGHTERS SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES. IT’S UNCLEAR WHAT HAPPENED IN THE HOME, BUT POLICE DESCRIBED IT AS A FAMILY DISORDER. City Council members voted in a closed session during Tuesday's meeting.Mayor Nancy Vaughan said the vote came after Jaiyeoba violated an internal policy that other employees have been fired over. They learned of this violation last week. Vaughan said his resignation did not involve matters related to the "family disorder" incident. Council members voted 5-4. Yvonne Johnson, Goldie Wells, Nancy Hoffman and Marikay Abuzuatier voted in favor. “I am really moved by what we’re doing tonight, but I want to wish our former city manager the best," said Councilwoman Goldie Wells. "I wish him much success. He really did a lot for the progress here in Greensboro."Watch: NOWCAST streaming newscastsSharon Hightower was in favor of the severance package but opposed to accepting his resignation. “It's a sad night for me. In the last couple of years or so, I appreciated his leadership. The needle has moved more for the community I represent than ever before," said Councilwoman Sharon Hightower. “My hope is the momentum will continue." Mayor Nancy Vaughan, Zack Matheny and Hugh Holston accepted his resignation but voted against the severance. Tammi Thurn voted no on both items. Former City Manager was not present at the meeting. He started the position on Feb. 1, 2022. Mayor Nancy Vaughan said the vote came after Jaiyeoba violated an internal policy that other employees have been fired over. They learned of this violation last week.

Sharon Hightower was in favor of the severance package but opposed to accepting his resignation.

“It's a sad night for me. In the last couple of years or so, I appreciated his leadership. The needle has moved more for the community I represent than ever before," said Councilwoman Sharon Hightower. “My hope is the momentum will continue."

Mayor Nancy Vaughan, Zack Matheny and Hugh Holston accepted his resignation but voted against the severance. Tammi Thurn voted no on both items.
