1 student killed, 2 injured following shooting at off-campus apartment near University of North Carolina at Pembroke

A shooting near the University of North Carolina at Pembroke left one student dead and two others injured Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at the Commons apartment complex, located just off campus.

The university's Chancellor, Robin Gary Cummings, MD, expressed his condolences in a statement:

"I am devastated that such violence has touched our campus community. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of the victim and to those who were injured."

He also says the investigation is ongoing, led by the Pembroke Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities are still investigating the shooting and have not released the names of those involved.
