HERE ARE THE TOP STORIES WE’RE FOLLOWING TODAY. SUPER TUESDAY IS THE BIGGEST DAY OF THE VOTING ON THE PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY CALENDAR. 16 STATES WILL WEIGH IN AND MORE THAN A THIRD OF DELEGATES ARE AT STAKE. FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP WILL BE BUILDING ON HIS WINNING STREAK, AND FORMER SOUTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR NIKKI HALEY PREVIOUSLY PLEDGED TO STAY IN THE RACE, AT LEAST THROUGH SUPER TUESDAY. BUT EXPERTS SAY THE COMEBACK COULD BE SOON OUT OF REACH FOR HER AND LEADERS IN SUMMERFIELD ARE STILL FIGHTING AGAINST DE-ANNEXATION. A BILL FOR THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY WOULD REMOVE NEARLY 1000 ACRES OF PROPERTY FOR HOUSING AND RETAIL DEVELOPMENT. MEMBERS ARE LOOKING TO HIRE A PUBLIC RELATIONS FIRM TO BUILD OBJECTION TO THE PROPOSAL, AND THE COST IS ESTIMATED AT $60,000. AND FRIDAY MARKS THE START OF SPRING WILDFIRE SEASON. HERE IN NORTH CAROLINA, THE STATE FOREST SERVICE IS URGING PEOPLE TO BE EXTRA CAUTIOUS WHILE BURNING ANYTHING OUTDOORS. THEY SAY FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED TO MORE THAN 5300 WILDFIRES ACROSS THE STATE LAST YEAR. ESCAPED DEBRIS BURNS ARE THE LEADING CAUSE. A shooting near the University of North Carolina at Pembroke left one student dead and two others injured Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at the Commons apartment complex, located just off campus.

The university's Chancellor, Robin Gary Cummings, MD, expressed his condolences in a statement:

"I am devastated that such violence has touched our campus community. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of the victim and to those who were injured."

He also says the investigation is ongoing, led by the Pembroke Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities are still investigating the shooting and have not released the names of those involved.
