NOW. THE GREENSBORO POLICE DEPARTMENT IS OUT WITH A TIMELINE OF ITS OWN RESPONSE TO AN INCIDENT AT THE CITY MANAGER’S HOME A FEW DAYS AFTER CHRISTMAS. DEVANTE MCKENITH, WHO BROKE THIS 12, INVESTIGATES STORY EARLIER THIS MONTH, WENT THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT’S STATEMENT AND DEVANTE, WHAT DOES IT SAY? CHRISTINE KENNY GREENSBORO POLICE SAY OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE HOME OF CITY MANAGER TAIWO JAIYEOBA ON DECEMBER 28TH AFTER 2911 CALLS WERE PLACED TO REPORT AN ALTERCATION. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THE CITY MANAGER THEN CALLED CHIEF JOHN THOMPSON TO LET HIM KNOW ABOUT THE INCIDENT. SHORTLY AFTER IT HAPPENED, THE DEPARTMENT SAYS THE CHIEF ASKED THE CITY MANAGER IF SOMEONE HAD ALREADY CALLED 911. FROM THERE, POLICE SAY THE CHIEF SPOKE, WITH THE FIRST RESPONDING OFFICER ON SCENE. AND INSTRUCTED THEM TO DE-ESCALATE THE SITUATION, SEPARATE THE PEOPLE INVOLVED IF NECESSARY AND DOCUMENT ALL INTERVIEWS. THE CHIEF. THEN ALSO TOLD THE OFFICER THAT THE WATCH COMMANDER, WHICH IS THE HIGHEST RANKING OFFICER ON THAT SHIFT, WOULD SOON BE ON THE WAY. THE POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS, QUOTE, AT NO TIME DID JAIYEOBA OR ANYONE FROM THE CITY MANAGER’S OFFICE ASK THE DEPARTMENT TO OPERATE OUTSIDE HYDE NORMAL INVESTIGATIVE PROCEDURES. THE RESPONDING OFFICERS THEN COMPLETED THEIR INVESTIGATIVE NOTES TO GIVE TO A DETECTIVE. THE FOLLOWING MORNING, THE DEPARTMENT SAYS AN INCIDENT REPORT WAS ENTERED INTO ITS DIGITAL DATABASE THE NEXT DAY, BUT ONLINE ACCESS WAS RESTRICTED AMONG DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC DUE TO, QUOTE, SENSITIVE INFORMATION WITHIN IT. ONCE THAT INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETED, THE DETECTIVE THEN MET WITH THE DA’S OFFICE AND DETERMINED NO CRIMINAL CHARGES WILL BE FILED IN THIS CASE. BODY CAMERA VIDEO FROM THAT NIGHT HAS ALREADY BEEN REVIEWED BY ALL CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS, AND THEY SAID IN A STATEMENT YESTERDAY THEY BELIEVE THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS THOROUGHLY INVESTIGATED.
