The record is hers: Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark breaks NCAA scoring mark
Updated: 11:51 PM EST Feb 15, 2024
Caitlin Clark's made plenty of remarkable buckets in her four seasons as an Iowa Hawkeye: wild, acrobatic drives to the hoop, pull-up jumpers with a hand in her face and deep 3-pointers from the halfcourt logo. But the one she made with 7:48 left in the first quarter Thursday against Michigan is the most memorable yet.Clark hit what is arguably her signature move — a pull-up 3-pointer from near the midcourt logo — to clinch the record as she scored each of her team's first 8 points of the game. In her 126th game as a Hawkeye, Clark passed Kelsey Plum as the NCAA women's all-time scoring leader. Plum scored 3,527 points in 139 games for Washington between 2013 and 2017. Next up for Clark: LSU legend "Pistol" Pete Maravich, the men's record-holder. He scored 3,667 points in 83 games over three seasons between 1967-1970, before the 3-point line and before freshmen were allowed to play. She's 139 points behind Maravich and, if she scores her average of about 32 points per game, she'll pass him on senior day Sunday, March 3, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena against Ohio State.
