12.COM. BREAKING NEWS HERE. AT HOME A MAN HAS DIED AFTER HE WAS HIT WHILE PUTTING GAS IN AN SUV, ACCORDING TO GREENSBORO POLICE. DESTINY HASKINS WAS DRIVING ON THE I 73 SOUTH RAMP TO I-40 YESTERDAY WHEN SHE WENT OFF THE ROAD, HITTING TWO PARKED VEHICLES AND MARCUS NIVENS. OFFICERS SAY NIVENS DIED ON THE SCENE. THERE WERE TWO PEOPLE INSIDE THE OTHER PARKED CAR WHO BROUGHT THE GAS TO NIVENS. WE’RE TOLD THEY ARE NOT INJURED, HASKINS IS CHARGED WITH SEVERAL CRIMES

A 62-year-old man died while filling his car up on the side of the road on Wednesday, Feb. 14.Greensboro police report that around 4:20 p.m., Destiny Hankins was driving on Interstate 73 South. At that time, Marcus Nivens had stopped his car on the right shoulder. He was putting gas in his car and wearing a yellow reflective safety vest, police said.Behind Nivens, a Chrysler was also parked on the right shoulder. Two people were in that car. They had brought the gas to Nivens.Hankins, 24, was headed toward a ramp onto Interstate 40 West. But instead, she drove her car off the road to the right. Hankins hit the Chrysler, then hit Nivens, then hit his car, according to Greensboro Police. Nivens, 62, died at the scene. The two people inside the Chrysler survived and were not hurt. Emergency responders took Hankins to a local hospital. She had non-life-threatening injuries, police report.Hankins is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, failure to maintain lane control, no seat belt, and no operator’s license.The Crash Reconstruction Unit will investigate the incident further.
