Mount Airy’s Creekside Cinemas closes several theaters until further notice following inspection, officials say
A beloved-turned-controversial movie theater in Mount Airy has been closed by Mount Airy/Surry County officials after complaints of various health violations.
On Thursday, the Mount Airy Code Enforcement, Mount Airy Fire Department, Surry County Building Inspections, and Surry County Health Department officers conducted an inspection of the Creekside Cinemas, located on Bluemont Road.

Mount Airy Code Enforcement as well as Surry County Building Inspections and Surry County Health Department, had received several complaints and photographic evidence regarding this property.
As a result of the inspection, several theaters have been closed to the public until further notice. The violations are related to the air temperature and air quality. Mount Airy Fire discovered violations and issued a notification with a two-week re-inspection date to have those dates resolved.

Mount Airy and Surry County officials are working with Creekside Cinemas and their management teams to rectify the issues.
In a Facebook post, Creekside Cinemas said the photos in circulation were taken when they were preparing to re-open post-quarantine and said they were voluntarily closing the auditoriums.
