IT HAPPENED ON OAKDALE ROAD NEAR MAIN STREET IN JAMESTOWN. TROOPERS SAY A 70 YEAR OLD WOMAN WAS DRIVING ACROSS A RAILROAD CROSSING WHEN A TRAIN HIT HER SUV. TROOPERS SAY THERE WERE WARNINGS THAT THE TRAIN WAS COMING. THE WOMAN HIT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MINOR INJURIES. SHE IS BEING CHARGED WITH UNSAFE MOVEMENT. A MAN IS IN CUSTODY TONIGHT CHARGED FOR A SHOOTING IN STOKES COUNTY. THE SHERIFF SAYS PAUL SAMUELS, JUNIOR WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN WALNUT COVE AFTER SHOOTING SOMEONE ON NORTHFIELD DRIVE IN KING LAST NIGHT. THE VICTIM WAS FOUND AT THE SCENE AND TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. INVESTIGATORS TONIGHT ARE STILL WORKING TO DETERMINE A MOTIVE, BUT THEY SAY THE VICTIM AND SUSPECT BOTH KNEW EACH OTHER. NO ONE HAS BEEN ARRESTED. ONE WEEK AFTER SOMEONE WAS SHOT ON PETERS CREEK PARKWAY. POLICE CONFIRMED TODAY THE SHOOTING HAPPENED ONE WEEK AGO NEAR FLO HONDA. A 30 YEAR OLD WAS INJURED. OFFICERS DID NOT SHARE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. RIGHT NOW, AT 4:00, THE POPLAR SECURITY CAMERA COMPANY RING HAS STOPPED LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES FROM BEING ABLE TO REQUEST DOORBELL CAMERA VIDEO FROM USERS THROUGH THE COMPANY’S NEIGHBORS APP AS MARIA DEBONE REPORTS, THIS VIDEO IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL WHEN IT COMES TO AGENCIES SOLVING CRIMES. SHE JOINS US LIVE TONIGHT ON THIS FRIDAY. MARIA, THIS TOOL WAS REALLY HELPFUL FOR POLICE. YEAH THAT’S RIGHT. DEVONTE. BEFORE THIS CHANGE, WHENEVER THEY WOULD NEED VIDEO EVIDENCE WINSTON-SALEM POLICE WOULD GO TO RING’S WEBSITE AND SEND A REQUEST OUT TO ANYBODY IN A CERTAIN AREA ASKING IF THEY HAVE FOOTAGE OF A CRIME THAT OCCURRED. NOW. THEN RING USERS COULD GO THROUGH THEIR CAMERAS AND SEND THE FOOTAGE TO THEM DIRECTLY. NOW POLICE WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THIS TOOL. BRADLEY RICHARDSON, THE SERGEANT OVER WINSTON SALEM POLICE, SAYS REAL TIME CRIME CENTER SAID THEY HAVE A SOLUTION TO THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY NEED THE COMMUNITY’S HELP. WPD SAYS THEY ENCOURAGE RESIDENTS TO GO TO CONNECT WINSTON-SALEM. ORG AND REGISTER THEIR CAMERAS WITH THE WINSTON-SALEM POLICE DEPARTMENT. THE DEPARTMENT WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE CAMERAS, FEED. THEY’LL JUST KNOW THERE IS A CAMERA IN THAT AREA. AND SO IF SPD NEEDS FOOTAGE FROM THERE, THEY CAN CONTACT THE USER DIRECTLY AND REQUEST FOOTAGE, RICHARDSON SAID. HAVING THIS ACCESS IS EXTREMELY HELPFUL WHEN SOLVING CRIMES IN WINSTON SALEM. IF A CRIME OCCURRED IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD, ON THEIR STREET, IN THEIR BLOCK RANGE, WE WOULD SEND AN EMAIL OR A TEXT MESSAGE TO THEM DIRECTLY STATING, HEY, WE’RE LOOKING FOR A BLACK SUV OR WHATEVER TYPE OF PERSON OR VEHICLE, AND THEY COULD GO THROUGH THEIR CAMERAS ON THEIR OWN, CLIP THAT VIDEO AND SEND IT DIRECTLY TO US. AND NOW RING OR SECURITY CAMERA USERS CAN TAKE IT A STEP FURTHER HERE IN WINSTON-SALEM AND INTEGRATE THEIR CAMERAS THAT WOULD ALLOW WINSTON-SALEM POLICE TO HAVE DIRECT ACCESS TO THEIR CAMERAS. WAS LIVE IN WINSTON SALEM TONIGHT. MARIA DEBONE WXII 12 NEWS. MARIA. THANK YOU. A 19 YEAR OLD HAS DIED AFTER A CRASH IN BROWNS SUMMIT.
