This historic bridge will be a centerpiece at the Paris Olympics. Here's why
The Paris Olympics, set to commence in about seven months, will feature a unique blend of Parisian history and sport, with a bridge playing a significant role.
Now normally, you wouldn't think that a bridge would be a part of the action during the Olympics, but the Pont Alexandre III or the Alexander the Third Bridge is actually going to be a pretty big centerpiece in Paris 2024.
The Pont Alexandre III is one of several structures that connect both banks of the River Seine. It's located near places like the Grand Palais, which is hosting a number of sporting events.
It's also a great opportunity for spectators to gather and watch some outdoor sporting competitions, including cycling and swimming.
In a first for the Olympics, the opening ceremony will take place outside of a stadium. Spectators in Paris will have the opportunity to watch from bridges like the Pont Alexandre III as performers and athletes float down the River Seine.
