THE DOG AND RAN OFF. HE’S A LITTLE BETTER, BUT, UH, STILL SKITTISH THREE YEAR OLD KION IS GETTING A LOT OF LOVE TONIGHT. HOURS AFTER HIS OWNER FEARLESSLY RESCUED HIM FROM THE JAWS OF A HUNGRY COYOTE, HE WAS RIGHT THERE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE STAIRS. JUST HAD HIM IN HIS MOUTH, SWINGING HIM AROUND LIKE A RAG DOLL. I MEAN, THE DOG WAS SCREAMING AND HE WAS JUST SWINGING HIM AROUND. JIM MERCADO HEARD HIS 15 POUND DOG CRYING FOR HELP IN THE YARD AROUND 730 THIS MORNING. HE RAN OUT AND GRABBED THE ONLY WEAPON HE COULD FIND, AND I GRABBED THIS THING AND I HIT HIM AS HARD AS I COULD OVER THE HEAD. THE FIRST TIME I JUST GAVE HIM A TO SCARE HIM. IT DIDN’T DO NOTHING. SO I HIT HIM HARD. I HIT HIM REALLY HARD AND HE FINALLY TOOK OFF UP THERE. ANIMAL CONTROL IS NOW WARNING OTHERS IN THE AREA OF WEST DOVER STREET THAT COYOTES CAN STRIKE, EVEN IN DENSELY POPULATED. NEIGHBORHOODS. I’M GOING TO JUST KEEP BE VIGILANT AND STAY OUT HERE WITH THEM. YOU KNOW, HOPEFULLY HE’S AFRAID OF ME. WELL, NOW EVERYONE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD IS PAYING A LITTLE MORE ATTENTION. A 3-year-old Massachusetts dog named Kyan is getting a lot of love from his owner, after he rescued the dog from the jaws of a hungry coyote."He was right there at the bottom of the stairs," said Jim Mercado, of Everett, Massachusetts. "Just had him in his mouth, swinging him around like a rag doll. The dog was screaming."Mercado said he heard his 15-pound dog crying for help in the yard around 7:30 Thursday morning. He says he ran out and grabbed the only weapon he could find."I grabbed this thing (pointing to a broom), and I hit him as hard as I could over the head first," Mercado said. Animal control is now warning others in the area that coyotes can strike even in densely populated neighborhoods. "I will just keep be vigilant and stay out here with them," Mercado said. "Hopefully the coyote's afraid of me."The little dog suffered no puncture wounds and no broken bones.
