Mother and father arrested in connection to 2020, 2022 child abuse allegations, police say

A mother and father were arrested following multiple reports of child abuse, according to the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Officers said they began investigating in 2020 after receiving reports of alleged child abuse. In 2022, they said additional allegations regarding the same suspect from two years prior were reported, but involved a separate victim.

After investigating, police said the victims were siblings and both infants at the time of the assault.
On Monday, both suspects — Tiana Denyse Thompson, 30, and Joseph Anthony Rivera, 27 — were arrested. Thompson was charged with the following:
- 1 felony count of neglect child abuse — serious bodily injury
Rivera was charged with the following:
- 2 felony counts of intentional child abuse — serious bodily injury
- 2 felony counts of intentional child abuse — serious physical injury
Thompson received a secured bond of $25,000. Rivera received a secured bond amount of $50,000.
