THE FIRST AT 4:00, THREE PEOPLE ARE DEAD TONIGHT AFTER A MURDER SUICIDE IN WINSTON-SALEM. AND POLICE SAY A FATHER SHOT AND KILLED HIS TWO CHILDREN BEFORE TURNING THE GUN ON HIMSELF EARLY THIS MORNING. THIS HAPPENED AROUND 330 AT A HOME ON WATERLILY CIRCLE. AND OFFICIALS SAY THE MOTHER WHO WAS IN THE HOME AT THE TIME, MADE THAT PHONE CALL TO POLICE. OUR MARIA DEBONE IS LIVE AT THE WINSTON-SALEM POLICE DEPARTMENT THIS AFTERNOON. MARIA, YOU SPOKE WITH NEIGHBORS OF THIS FAMILY. SO WHAT DID THEY TELL YOU? WELL, UNDERSTANDABLY, LINDSAY NEIGHBORS SAID THEY ARE JUST IN SHOCK RIGHT NOW. THEY SAY THE CHILDREN THAT WERE 20 AND 16 YEARS OLD WERE VERY KIND, HAPPY AND JUST HAD THEIR WHOLE LIVES AHEAD OF THEM. SO SOMBER DAY IN OUR CITY, WINSTON-SALEM POLICE SAY WHEN THEY ARRIVED ON SCENE AROUND 330 THIS MORNING, THEY FOUND DAVID HOUSDEN AND HIS TWO CHILDREN, 20 YEAR OLD ALEXANDER DAVID HOUSDEN AND 16 YEAR OLD KAYLEE NICOLE HOUSDEN DEAD FROM GUNSHOT WOUNDS. THEY SAY DAVID SHOT BOTH OF HIS CHILDREN BEFORE TURNING THE GUN ON HIMSELF. SO NOW THREE LIVES ARE GONE AND WE’RE ALL TORE UP ABOUT IT. THIS NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR OF THE HOUSDEN FAMILY DIDN’T WANT TO GO ON CAMERA BUT SAID SHE’S LIVED NEXT TO THEM FOR 12 YEARS AND KNEW THEM WELL. WE SEE FROM THE SURFACE. RIGHT. AND IT JUST APPEARS NORMAL. AND THEN YOU’RE HIT WITH DEATH. WE NEVER SAW THAT COMING. WE NEVER KNEW THAT SOMEBODY NEEDED HELP AND WE DIDN’T REACH OUT. NOBODY REACHED OUT FOR IT OR NOBODY SAW IT. AND IT’S TOO LATE. OFFICIALS SAY ALEXANDER WAS A JUNIOR AT WINSTON SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY STUDYING EXERCISE SCIENCE. KAYLEE WAS A STUDENT AT ATKINS HIGH SCHOOL AND WAS A PART OF THE COLOR GUARD. AT A NEWS CONFERENCE HELD TUESDAY, SCHOOL OFFICIALS SPOKE ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AND COUNSELING RESOURCES AS BEING AVAILABLE DURING THIS TIME. WE WILL BE THERE TO WRAP OUR HANDS, OUR ARMS AROUND THE FAMILIES AND ALL THE FRIENDS AND ALL THE STAFF MEMBERS THAT HAVE INTERACTED. AGAIN, BOTH KIDS WERE WELL LOVED AND SO WE WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE’S OKAY. AND AGAIN, THAT CRISIS TEAM IS ON STAFF AT ATKINS HIGH SCHOOL TODAY. AND THEY SAID THEY ALERTED STAFF AND STUDENTS ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. AND AT WINSTON SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY, THEY SAID THEY HAVE 24 OVER SEVEN MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES AVAILABLE. Two siblings and their father are dead after a murder-suicide, officials with the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) said. Police said David Lee Housden, 55, shot and killed his daughter, Kaylee Nicole Housden, 16, and his son, Alexander David Housden, 20, and then killed himself.
