Families are branching out across this 200-acre farm to find the perfect tree whether that's something tremendous or more of the Charlie Brown variety.
Matthew Sexton and his family have owned this Christmas tree farm since 1960.
Sexton says there is a lot of time involved in growing those bright green leaves with festive cheer that brings us hope throughout the year. He says it's a longer process than people understand.
The average tree takes 3 to 4 years to grow from a seed to a foot tall. From there they grow another foot every year.
The Sextons are constantly monitoring the weather. Drought-like conditions can drastically reduce the amount of growth for these Fraser firs.
Sexton says, "One year you might get a foot of growth and this year it might only be six inches. You just have to wait and see what happens."
Sexton also says, "It's important to cut just a little chunk off the bottom to get that fresh bottom on it to where, whenever you put it in the stand and put water in it it'll soak the moisture up."
Sexton also says for every tree they cut down, they plant two more so it's literally a green process.
