ONLINE OR JUST SIMPLY SHOW UP. TIS THE SEASON FOR BELL RINGING. THE SALVATION ARMY IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS RIGHT NOW TO RING THE BELLS FOR THIS YEAR’S RED KETTLE CAMPAIGN. WXII 12. S MARIA DEBONE HAS MORE ON THE NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON AND HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED. WELL, YOU KNOW, IT’S THE HOLIDAY SEASON WHEN YOU SEE THESE RED BUCKETS AND HEAR THE ICONIC BELLS RINGING. BUT BEFORE YOU SEE THEM POP UP IN FRONT OF STORES, THE SALVATION ARMY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS TO SIGN UP. RIGHT NOW, THE SALVATION ARMY HAS ABOUT 400 HOURS COVERED, BUT THEY NEED PEOPLE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ALMOST 4000 HOURS. STILL AVAILABLE. THE SHIPS FOR THEM ARE ABOUT EIGHT HOURS, BUT WE SPLIT THEM INTO TWO SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE OUT THERE THE FULL EIGHT IF YOU WANT TO BE OUT THERE, THE FULL EIGHT, THAT’S GREAT. BUT WE SPLIT IT DOWN INTO TWO. WE WELCOME ALL TYPES OF GROUPS AND CHURCHES, ORGANIZATIONS, SORORITIES, YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS, ANYBODY JUST COME OUT THERE AND SPREAD THE CHEER. A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE SALVATION ARMY SAID THIS IS THEIR BIGGEST FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR. THIS SETS US UP IN ORDER FOR US TO DO THE MANY THINGS THAT WE DO ALL THROUGH THE YEAR. LIKE I SAID, THE FOOD PANTRIES JUST A LOT OF THE LIFE SKILLS CLASSES THAT WE TEACH HERE AT THE CENTER OF HOPE, ALL OF THE SUPPORT, THE IN-BETWEEN THINGS DOWN FROM SOCKS TO FOOD BASKETS AND EVERYTHING, ALL OF THAT DEPENDS ON WHAT WE RAISE RIGHT NOW. THAT’S WHY THEY SAY IT’S IMPORTANT TO GET ALL HOURS COVERED AND ENCOURAGE PEOPLE TO SIGN UP. IT’S BIGGER THAN JUST ONE PERSON. IT’S BIGGER THAN THE KETTLES. IT’S BIGGER THAN THE BELLS AND ALL OF THAT. IT’S THAT’S FUN. YOU KNOW, THAT’S COOL. BUT THE MEANING BEHIND IT IS THE SALVATION ARMY. WE HELP PEOPLE ALL ACROSS THE WORLD. Tis the season for bell ringing! The Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem is looking for volunteers to 'ring the bells' for their 2023 Red Kettle Campaign. Right now, the Salvation Army has about 400 hours covered, but they need people to sign up for the more than 3,850 hours still available. The shifts for them are eight hours, but they split them up so you don’t have to be out there the full time. Kayanah Alexander, the area command communications director, said this is their biggest fundraiser of the year."This sets us up in order for us to do the many things that we do all through the year," Alexander said.Donations go toward providing Christmas gifts to local families in need and support other programs like the Center of Hope family shelter and The Salvation Army Ken Carlson Boys & Girls Club.That's why Alexander said she encourages people to sign up to be volunteers.“It's bigger than just one person. It's bigger than the kettles, it's bigger than the bells and all of that. That's fun, that's cool, but the meaning behind it is the Salvation Army. We help people all across the world." Alexander said. Maj. Andrew Wiley, one of the corps officers for the Winston-Salem Area Command, said, “The Red Kettle Campaign is the most exciting and busiest time at The Salvation Army. Your time and dedication go towards ensuring no family misses out on the joys of Christmas. There are many ways to support us during this time, including our Angel Tree program, online shopping registries, or just dropping your spare change in a bucket. We appreciate everyone who steps up to give back to our community, change happens when you ring.”The Red Kettle Campaign runs from Nov. 16 through Dec. 23, with kettle locations open Monday through Fridays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
