THE FATHER AND DAUGHTER ACCEPTED A PLEA DEAL FOR THE 2015 DEATH OF MOLLY’S HUSBAND, JASON OWEN, ON FRIDAY. NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS OF THE CORBETT FAMILY TESTIFIED ABOUT HOW THEY SAW JASON BEING CONTROLLING AND ABUSIVE TOWARD MOLLY. ONE NEIGHBOR SAID SHE URGED MOLLY TO LEAVE, BUT MOLLY WOULDN’T BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T WANT TO LOSE JASON’S CHILDREN. POLICE FOUND THE VICTIM AROUND 345 THIS MORNING ON MCKNIGHT MILL ROAD NEAR 16TH STREET. WE’RE TOLD THE PERSON WAS LYING IN THE ROADWAY AND DETECTIVES SHUT DOWN BOTH DIRECTIONS OF THE STREET WHILE THEY COLLECTED EVIDENCE. RIGHT NOW, POLICE DON’T HAVE ANY SUSPECTS. THE FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS IDENTIFIED A MAN KILLED IN WALKERTOWN. INVESTIGATORS SAY CASEY GOOLSBY WAS SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES ON CANE FOREST DRIVE BACK ON OCTOBER 27TH. DEPUTIES SAY THE 24 YEAR OLD DIED AT THE SCENE. RIGHT NOW, INVESTIGATORS HAVE NOT RELEASED INFORMATION ABOUT A POSSIBLE SUSPECT. A STATE OF EMERGENCY IS IN EFFECT IN HENDERSON COUNTY AS FIRE CREWS WORK TO GET A WILDFIRE UNDER CONTROL. THE POPLAR DRIVE FIRE BEGAN FRIDAY AND HAS GROWN TO 431 ACRES. RIGHT NOW, THE FIRE IS ONLY ABOUT 5% CONTAINED. A FIRE CHIEF IN THE EATONVILLE COMMUNITY PREDICTS IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST A WEEK TO PUT THOSE FLAMES OUT, IF NOT LONGER, TO IF HOUSES BUILT WITH WITH TREES OVERHANGING THEM, TIGHT DRIVEWAYS AND NARROW ROADS TO ACCESS AND IT POSES A GREAT CHALLENGE BECAUSE OF THAT. HE SAYS THE LAND IS SO DRY THAT CREWS DOUSE IT WITH WATER AND WITHIN AN HOUR IT’S DUST AGAIN. NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS UNKNOWN AND REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION. IN CHEROKEE COUNTY, THE COLETTE RIDGE WILDFIRE HAS BURNED MORE THAN 2100 ACRES. THE US FOREST SERVICE SAYS THE FLAMES ARE SPREADING DUE TO DRY CONDITIONS IN THE MOUNTAINS. RIGHT NOW THE FIRE IS NOT CONTAINED. 110 FIREFIGHTERS ARE BATTLING THE WILDFIRE FROM THE GROUND. It will begin at noon at the corner of Lindsay and Elm Street.High Point Veterans Day Parade - The High Point Veterans Day Parade will be on Sunday, Nov. 12. It will begin at 3 p.m. The parade route will start at Main Street, then go to Russell Avenue, and end on Quebein Avenue. The lineup will include veterans, color guards, marching bands, cars, motorcycles, military vehicles, and ROTC units. Alamance County Veterans Day Parade - The 10th Annual Alamance County Veterans Day Parade will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at the intersections of North Main Street and East Parker Street and will travel down Main Street, around Courtsquare, and continue on Main Street until E. Mcaden Street, where it will turn left and continue into the back parking lot of Graham Middle School. This is a rain-or-shine event. Mt. Airy Veterans Day Parade - The Mt. Airy Veterans Day Parade will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 9:30 a.m. The parade will start staging at Veterans Day, located at 691 W. Lebanon Street, and travel down Main St through downtown. LUNCHEONS, DINNERS, AND COFFEE EVENTS Davidson County Senior Services Annual Veterans Luncheon - In partnership with Novant Health, the Davidson County Senior Services will be hosting its Annual Veterans Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from noon to 2 p.m.It will be held at Davidson-Davie Community College's Mary E. Rittling Conference Room at 297 Community College Road in Thomasville. All Davidson County veterans 55 and older and their spouses are cordially invited to attend the reception free of charge.Veterans' Coffee at Richard Childress Racing - There will be a Veterans Coffee Event at Richard Childress Racing on Wednesday, Nov. 8. It starts at 9 a.m. It will be held at RCR Headquarters at 425 Industrial Ave. in Welcome, North Carolina.During the coffee event, there will also be a recognition of Gold Star family members or POWs. Women Veterans Coffee & Conversation - The Women Veterans Coffee & Conversation will take place on Monday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Presented by Veterans Bridge Home and sponsored by Humana, it will take place at the Humana Neighborhood Center at 1045 Hanes Mall Blvd. in Winston-Salem. Veterans Coffee Event - This coffee will be on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and begins at 8:30 a.m. It will be in Greensboro at the Golden Corral at 4404 Landview Drive. The event is presented by Veterans Bridge Home.The Servant Center Coffee Event - The Servant Center will be hosting a coffee and donut event on Wednesday, November 8, from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. It will take place at The Servant Center transitional housing at 1305 Glenwood Ave in Greensboro.They are seeking 1,000 signatures of thanks on a banner in honor of Veterans Day. The Servant Center is a nonprofit that serves veterans who are experiencing homelessness.Greensboro Dinner - Elks Lodge of Greensboro is hosting a dinner for Veterans on Friday, Nov. 10.
