JOINS US NOW AT 4:00. MITCHELL THINGS WILL CHANGE, THOUGH, OVERNIGHT. OH, THEY ARE ALREADY BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE THINGS ARE SHIFTING OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. WE DO HAVE TROPICAL STORM OPHELIA AT THIS HOUR. THAT HAPPENED OFFICIALLY AT 2:00 THIS AFTERNOON AS IT TRANSITIONED FROM TROPICAL POSSIBLE CYCLONE 16. RIGHT. AND NOW WE’RE LOOKING AT THAT SYSTEM BRINGING IN LOTS OF RAIN. ALL THE WAY INLAND OUT THROUGH AREAS OF THE SANDHILLS AND THEN ALONG THE COAST. THIS IS WHERE WE EXPECT STILL THE HEAVIEST OF RAIN. YOU CAN SEE WHERE THE TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS, THOUGH, HAVE BEEN EXTENDED INLAND, JUST ABOUT THE OUTSKIRTS OF THE RALEIGH AREA. AND YOU CAN SEE RIGHT NOW WE’VE GOT TROPICAL STORM WINDS LIKELY IMPACTING FOLKS ALONG THE OUTER BANKS, ESPECIALLY THE SOUTHERN OUTER BANKS AREAS OF ATLANTIC BEACH. AS WE GO THROUGH EMERALD ISLE LIFTING OUT AND NORTH AS WE GO THROUGH CAPE HATTERAS AND EVEN VIRGINIA BEACH, WE’LL GET IN ON THE ACTION. SO WE’VE GOT SOME STORM SURGE WARNINGS IN ADDITION TO THIS. AND WE’RE NOTICING THAT SOME OF THE FORECAST MODELS STILL TAKING THIS BACK OUT A LITTLE BIT. AND TO THE NORTH AND EAST. BUT MOST OF THE MODELS RIGHT NOW IN AGREEMENT THAT IT’S GOING TO RIDE NORTH. AND INSTEAD OF HAVING THAT MORE PERPENDICULAR APPROACH TO THE INLAND LANDFALL, IT’S GOING TO BE A BIT MORE NORTHERLY. AND SO THAT COULD TAKE SOME OF THE RAIN AWAY FROM US WATCHING THIS HOUR BY HOUR FORECAST, YOU SEE THE HEAVIEST OF RAIN FROM EMERALD ISLE THROUGH WILMINGTON, OUT THROUGH HATTERAS AREA AND THEN ROLLING THOSE SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MAINLY HERE AS WE SEE THE CENTER OF THE STORM IMPACTING FOLKS OF THE COAST WITH ANY STRONG THUNDERSTORMS AND THEN SHOWERS BACK TO THE WEST. WE’VE GOT TEMPERATURES THAT ARE LIKELY IN THE 60S FOR A GOOD PART OF OUR DAY SATURDAY. AND WE WRAP SOME OF THOSE RAIN BANDS ON THE OUTER EDGES BRINGING IN SCATTERED SHOWERS. AND IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE WE HAVE AS HEAVY RAINFALL. BUT ONE OF OUR FORECAST MODELS, THIS ONE, THE H TRIPLE R, STILL BRINGING IN SHOWERS ALL THE WAY THROUGH ABOUT 3:00. THE EASTERN TRIAD HAS THE BEST CHANCE TO SEE SOME OF THOSE OUTER RAIN BANDS AS WE GO THROUGH THE AFTERNOON HOURS ON OUR SATURDAY. SO IT DOES MEAN THAT WE’RE GOING TO HAVE SOME LINGERING SHOWERS FROM WINSTON-SALEM THROUGH BURLINGTON, LIKELY AS LATE AS NINE, 10:00 TOMORROW EVENING BEFORE THE SYSTEM FINALLY MOVES NORTH AND AWAY FROM US. WE’LL TALK MORE ABOUT YOUR WINDS AS WE’RE ALREADY STARTING TO GUST OUT THERE RIGHT NOW IN THE 25 MILE AN HOU
