AGAIN TOMORROW NIGHT. TONIGHT AT TOWN HALL MEETING TOOK PLACE IN HIGH POINT WITH SEVERAL STATE LAWMAKERS INVITED TO HEAR DIRECTLY FROM LOCAL RESIDENTS. WXII 12. S KARA PETERS HAS MORE ON THE EVENT. SHE JOINS US LIVE IN STUDIO WITH THE DETAILS. KARA? YEAH, CHRISTINE, THIS TOWN HALL IS PART OF A MULTI-CITY TOUR HOSTED BY COMMON CAUSE NORTH CAROLINA. SO FAR, THEY HAVE GONE TO SOUTHEAST MECKLENBURG AND MOORE COUNTY. TONIGHT, I CAUGHT UP WITH A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE GROUP ON COMMON CITIZEN. CONCERNS RAISED DURING THE MEETINGS. GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE. ON MUCH BETTER COMMON CAUSE NORTH CAROLINA HOSTING A TOWN HALL IN HIGH POINT MONDAY EVENING FOR RESIDENTS TO HAVE THEIR CONCERNS HEARD BY STATE LAWMAKERS. ONE COMMON THEME THAT LEADS TO DISCUSSION IS REDISTRICTING. THERE ARE PROPOSED DRAMATIC CHANGES TO HOW ELECTIONS ARE RUN. OUR VOTING MAPS ARE GOING TO BE REDRAWN. THERE IS A BUDGET PROCESS THAT’S GOING TO DETERMINE HOW RESOURCES ARE INVESTED IN OUR COMMUNITIES. HIGH POINT IS GOING TO BE POLITICALLY IMPORTANT IN THAT REDISTRICT PROCESS THIS FALL. AND WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT RESIDENTS OF HIGH POINT ARE READY TO MAKE THEIR VOICES HEARD IN WHATEVER PROCESS WE GET FROM THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. ANOTHER PURPOSE FOR THE EVENT IS TO ENCOURAGE MORE PEOPLE TO GET OUT AND VOTE. NORTH CAROLINA HAS HAD GREAT TURNOUT IN THE PAST FEW ELECTIONS. WE WANT TO KEEP THAT GOING AND WE WANT TO INCREASE TURNOUT IN THE 2023 MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS AND THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS. A CHANCE FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS TO ASK QUESTIONS PERTAINING TO THE 2023 LEGISLATIVE SESSION AND FOR LAWMAKERS TO LISTEN AND PROVIDE FEEDBACK. NO CHARTER SCHOOLS ARE NOT PUBLIC SCHOOLS. THEY ARE BEING FUNDED BY PUBLIC SCHOOL MONEY. CHARTER SCHOOLS ARE PUBLIC SCHOOLS. CHARTER SCHOOLS CANNOT REJECT ANY. EXCUSE ME. THESE ARE THESE ARE JUST FACTS. The town hall is part of a multicity tour; so far they have gone to Southeast Mecklenburg and Moore county.
