NO ONE WAS HURT. STUDENTS UP IN MOUNT AIRY GOT AN UP CLOSE LOOK AT HOW FIRST RESPONDERS HANDLED TRAUMATIC SITUATIONS. THIS EVENT WAS HELD BY NORTHERN REGIONAL HOSPITAL AND SURREY COUNTY EMS STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THIS HOSPITAL’S CAMP MED PROGRAM EVEN HELPED PLAN AND ACT IN THIS SCENARIO, WHICH WAS FOCUSED ON A CAR CRASH CAUSED BY TEXTING WHILE DRIVING. THE SCENARIO WENT THROUGH MULTIPLE STAGES, STARTING WITH A 911 CALL TO REPORT THE CRASH TO FIRST RESPONDERS ARRIVING ON SCENE, REMOVING THE ACTORS FROM WRECKED CARS AND THEN RUSHING THEM TO THE HOSPITAL. CAMP MED STUDENTS SAY IT WAS AN EYE OPENING EXPERIENCE REGARDLESS OF WHAT DEPARTMENT YOU WORK IN, WHAT KIND OF NURSE, EVEN IF YOU’RE JUST A HEALTH CARE WORKER, YOU HAVE TO BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. YOU’RE NOT JUST GOING CATCH THE AFTERMATH BECAUSE THERE’S SOME THINGS THE PARAMEDIC CAN’T DO. AND SO IT’S JUST GOING TO LAND IN YOUR HANDS AND YOU HAVE TO BE READY TO HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEMS. "Regardless of what department you work in, what kind of nurse, even if you're just a health care worker, you have to be prepared for anything and everything," said student Cheyenne Rogers.
