Police ID man shot and killed by Greensboro officer; SBI investigating

Greensboro police said a man is dead after being shot by an officer early Thursday morning.

Police said in a news release that officers were called to the 1000 block of Tuscaloosa Street at 12:12 a.m. to investigate a suspicious vehicle.
According to police, the officer who responded approached a man who was walking in the street, and that person showed the officer a gun.

Police said the officer then fired their weapon from inside their police vehicle, shooting the man in the street.
The officer began rendering aid until more officers and EMS arrived, police said.
Police said the man who was shot was taken to a hospital where medical personnel pronounced them dead.
Police have identified the man who died as 51-year-old Graham Roberson. The name of the officer who shot him has not been released.
The police department said it had requested the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to conduct a criminal investigation into the shooting and the Greensboro Police Department’s Professional Standards Division will conduct an internal investigation to determine whether Greensboro Police Department policies were followed by the officer.
The officer who shot the person has been placed on administrative duty.
