Investigators later identified Dakota Chambers, 27, of East Bend, as a suspect in this case.

Chambers was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, June 28, an official at the Yadkin County Clerk's Office said.

WXII 12 News talked with Joel Graydon, Murray's son, Wednesday.

Graydon said he had learned about his father's death last Thursday after his uncle had called him.

"It was a shock. You never expect anybody, one of your loved ones to die suddenly," he shared.

Graydon said his father was loved by many people in the community and was known for his caring heart.

Murray's brother, Mark, said Murray had a passion for karaoke.

"Scott was loved by a lot of people in his life and everything including myself. He was just somebody you can go to and talk to and tear off his own shirt off his back and give it to you. A lot of people are going to miss him," Graydon shared.

This past weekend was Graydon's first time spending Father's Day without both of his parents.

"Not only is my father gone, but my mother’s gone too. She died a couple of years ago. It was the first parental holiday I had with neither of my parents. It was a shock and something to think about, and think more about his memory than just having him to be here," he said.

WXII 12 News asked Graydon what justice in his father's case looks like to him.

He said he is relying on the legal process.

"If he (Chambers) was the one who committed this act of killing Scott, justice would be sending him to prison and allowing him to do the time that he needs to think about why he did it and his actions," Graydon responded.

Murray leaves behind his son, three brothers and a sister.

"Don’t take anything for granted. People can come and go in a snap of anything. If you care about a loved one, make sure you check on them everyday or every other day. Don’t wait until it feels convenient for you," he shared.
