Forsyth County deputies identify man killed by a deputy during standoff in Kernersville
Forsyth County deputies have identified the man who was killed by a deputy during a standoff in Kernersville.
Deputies identified the suspect as James White Jr., 48, of Kernersville.
A Forsyth County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a suspect Thursday morning following an attack and standoff.
Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough Jr. said it happened around 8:30 a.m. in the area of Old Valley School Road in Kernersville.
Kimbrough said a deputy responded to a home and was met by the suspect after they arrived. He said an altercation occurred, and the man assaulted the deputy and then barricaded himself inside the house on Old Valley School Road.
"I see them coming by. They just keep rolling by after firetrucks, paramedics, police car, after police car," Rickey Davis, a neighbor, described what he saw and heard.

The sheriff’s office called for extra resources. They made entry into the house, and they said the man attacked a deputy. The man was then shot and killed.

They said one shot was fired that killed the man. They said it was the man’s home and that someone else was also inside the house. No one else was injured. They also said the man had active warrants.
Deputies did not provide further details about the warrants.
"The suspect's significant other was in the house at the time and was texting the neighbor that he would not let her out," Christina Howell, a spokesperson for the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the shooting.
