Richard Petty named grand marshal of NASCAR All-Star Hauler Parade
WELCOME BACK, EVERYONE. IN JUST A LITTLE MORE THAN A WEEK, THOUSANDS OF FANS WILL FILL THE STANDS AT THE NORTH WILKESBORO SPEEDWAY FOR NASCAR’S ALL-STAR RACE. AND THE SPEEDWAY HOSTED AN OPEN HOUSE YESTERDAY. IT’S BEEN NEARLY 30 YEARS SINCE A NASCAR RACE HAS BEEN HELD AT THE TRACK, AND THOSE LAST MINUTE PREPS ARE NOW UNDERWAY AS RACE DAY NEARS. WE’RE JUST SO THANKFUL FOR ALL THE SUPPORT WE’VE GOTTEN FROM THE STATE AND LOCAL LEADERS, THE COMMUNITY, AND WE’RE READY TO HAVE A PARTY NOW. IT’S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING. NEXT WEEK, NORTH WILKESBORO SPEEDWAY WILL WELCOME TENS OF THOUSANDS OF FANS TO THE RACETRACK FOR NASCAR ALL-STAR RACE WEEKEND. WE ARE PACING TOWARDS A SELLOUT, SO IF WE SELL OUT COMPLETELY, WE’RE GOING TO HAVE A CROWD HERE OF 28 TO 30,000 PEOPLE FOR THE NASCAR ALL-STAR RACE. AND WE’LL HAVE A LOT MORE PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WEEK. THE SPEEDWAY HOSTED AN OPEN HOUSE LAST NIGHT, DRAWING A LARGE CROWD AS THOSE FINAL PREPARATIONS GET UNDERWAY FOR NEXT WEEK. WE WERE ABSOLUTELY THRILLED TO SEE SO MANY FANS TURN OUT FOR AN OPEN HOUSE LAST NIGHT. YOU KNOW, THEY WERE EXCITED TO SEE THE DRIVERS AND GETTING AUTOGRAPHS, BUT MAINLY IT WAS ABOUT THE VENUE ITSELF. IT WAS ABOUT BEING ABLE TO SEE THIS PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME. AFTER ALL THIS RESTORATION WORK HAS BEEN TAKING PLACE FOR SO MANY MONTHS. RACING BEGINS TUESDAY NIGHT WITH EVENTS EVERY DAY LEADING UP TO THE CUP SERIES ALL STAR RACE ON THE 21ST. THERE ARE A LOT OF DELIVERIES THAT ARE COMING IN. WE’RE STILL INSTALLING SOME WI-FI AND SOME DIFFERENT PLACES AS WE’RE WORKING ON OUR OUR OUR PARKING PLAN IS PRETTY MUCH FULLY BAKED NOW. THE SPEEDWAY HAS BEEN UNDERGOING RENOVATION FOR MONTHS NOW, PREPARING FOR NASCAR TO RETURN TO ITS RACING ROOTS. AS THIS RESURRECTION HAS HAPPENED. IT’S ALL NOW ABOUT THE FUN AND GETTING READY TO FINISH AND COME TO THAT CHECKERED FLAG AND BE READY TO GO NEXT WEEK. AND NOW IT’S ALL COMING TO FRUITION AS NORTH WILKESBORO SPEEDWAY HOSTS ITS FIRST NASCAR RACE SINCE 1996, IT IS INCREDIBLY REWARDING FOR US TO BE ABLE TO BRING THIS TRACK BACK TO LIFE. WE CAN’T FIND THAT THERE’S EVER BEEN A PROFESSIONAL SPORTS VENUE ANYWHERE WHERE THAT WAS COMPLETELY CLOSED WITH NO HOPE OF COMING BACK. THAT HAS NOW COME BACK TO THE SAME MAJOR LEAGUE LEVEL FOR THE SAME SPORT. SO THIS IS HISTORICAL. WHAT’S TAKING PLACE HERE. CERTAINLY AN EXCITING TIME. EMAILS ARE GOING OUT NOW TO FANS WHO ALREADY BOUGHT THEIR TICKETS TO HELP THEM PREPARE AND PEOPLE WITH DIGITAL TICKETS ARE ENCOURAGED TO DOWNLOAD THOSE AHEAD OF TIME.
