'Gobble gobble': Turkey flies into lobster food truck's window
12. WELL, THIS IS SOMETHING YOU DON’T HEAR HAPPENING EVERY DAY. A TURKEY FLEW INTO A FOOD TRUCK WHILE THE OWNERS WERE DRIVING IT ON THE HIGHWAY JUST WEST OF WINSTON-SALEM. WOW. WXII 12. MARIA DEBONE HAS HOW THE OWNERS OF LOS GORDON’S BISTRO ARE MAKING THE BEST OUT OF A FOUL SITUATION. ALL WE CAN SEE IS THE WHITE BELLY COMING ACROSS AND WE KNEW IT WAS A TURKEY. AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW, IT HIT. DAN GREYSON SAID HE WAS JUST DRIVING HIS LOBSTER ROLL TRUCK DOWN ON 14TH 41 WHEN EIGHT TURKEY LANDED ON THE FRONT WINDOW AND CAME OVER THIS WAY AND ACTUALLY CAME THROUGH THE TRUCK, THE WHOLE FLOORBOARD WAS FULL OF GLASS. THE DASH WAS FULL OF GLASS, SEATS WERE FULL OF GLASS. HIGHWAY PATROL RESPONDED AND WAS JUST AS SURPRISED AS GRAYSON. THEY PUT THESE LITTLE MIRRORS SO WE COULD SEE TO TAKE IT TO IT. WE COULD SEE TO TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP. THEY TOLD WXII THAT THIS IS VERY RARE. YOU KNOW, HE SAID YOU WERE HIT BY WHAT TURKEY? GRAYSON AND HIS WIFE HAD SOME CUTS, AND THE TRUCK HAS ABOUT $5,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE. THEY SAID THEY’RE THANKFUL IT JUST WASN’T WORSE. THE ONE THING I WOULD STRESS IS THAT THE SERIOUS SITUATION YOU HIT SOMETHING THAT HAD YOU GOING DOWN THE ROAD. IT CAN COME THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AND KILL YOU. AND THE ONLY REASON IT DIDN’T COME THROUGH HERE IS SIMPLY BECAUSE WE HIT THAT ALUMINUM A-FRAME, THE WINDOWS SUPPORT AND THEN IT BOUNCED OFF ONTO THE SIDE AND HIT THE MIRRORS, BUT IT STILL CAME THROUGH THE SIDE. AND NOW GRAYSON IS LOOKING AT THE POSITIVES TO THIS FOUL INCIDENT. I WOULD RATHER FOR IT TO BE ON MY THANKSGIVING PLATE. BUT THE PUBLICITY WE’RE GETTING IS IS IS REALLY A GODSEND. WE’VE ALREADY BOOK LIKE FIVE OR SIX DIFFERENT APPOINTMENTS. WE’VE ALREADY HAD A COUPLE OF CORPORATIONS REACH OUT. WE’VE HAD SOME INTEREST EVEN ON OUR OTHER TRUCK DO THIS. AND SO I HAD TO ASK, IS GRAYSON THINKING OF SERVING SOMETHING OTHER THAN LOBSTER NOW? NO, WE’RE NOT ADDING TURKEY TO OUR MENU. BUT IT WAS A REALLY WILD EXPERIENCE. AND GRAYSON SAID HE’S HOPING TO HAVE HIS BIG BUSINESS UP AND RUNNING IN A FEW WEEKS SO PEOPLE CAN GOBBLE IT UP IN ADVANCE. MARI

A turkey flew into a food truck while the owners were driving it on the highway just west of Winston-Salem. The owners of 'Los Gordos Bistro’ are making the best out of a “fowl” situation. “All we could see was the white belly coming across and we knew it was a turkey, and the next thing you know, it hit," Dan Grayson, owner of Los Gordos Bistro food truck, said. Grayson said he was driving his lobster roll truck on 421 when a turkey landed on the front window, came across to the side mirror and went through the driver's window. “The whole floorboard was full with glass; seats were full of glass," Grayson said.Highway patrol responded and was just as surprised as Grayson and his wife. They told WXII that this is very rare. “He said you were hit by what? Hit by a turkey?" Grayson said.Grayson and his wife had some cuts and the truck has about $5,000 worth of damage. They said they’re thankful it wasn’t worse. “The one thing I would stress is it’s a serious situation. It can come through the window and kill you. The only reason it didn’t come through here is simply because it hit that aluminum A-frame, the window support and then bounced off onto the side and hit the mirrors, but it still came through the side," Grayson said. Now Grayson is looking at the positives to this fowl incident. “I would rather for it been on my Thanksgiving plate but the publicity we're getting is really a godsend," Grayson said. Grayson said they've also booked several appointments since the incident and had a couple corporations reach out. WXII Reporter Maria DeBone asked, is Grayson thinking of serving something other than lobster now? “No, we're not adding turkey to our menu, but it was a really wild experience," Grayson said. Grayson said he’s hoping to have the lobster truck back up and running in a few weeks so people can gobble up the food.
