TRIAD. CW STARTS NOW. GUNFIRE ERUPTS AS A PARTING. THE TRIAD GETS OUT OF CONTROL. WHAT LED TO THE SHOT BEING FIRED AND THE SUSPECT POLICE SAY THEY’RE LOOKING FOR THIS MORNING. PLUS, DEADLY STORMS IN MISSISSIPPI. HOW RESIDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS FROM HERE IN NORTH CAROLINA ARE RESPONDING TO HELP. AND NOW RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR. A TRIAD NATIVE IS THROWING HIS NAME INTO THE RING FOR NORTH CAROLINA’S TOP JOB. WHY HE SAYS HE IS THE BEST CHOICE TO LEAD. 801 HERE ON YOUR SUNDAY MARCH 26. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STARTING YOUR DAY WITH US. I’M JACKIE PASCALE HERE WITH METEOROLOGIST JACLYN SHEARER JACQUELIN AT THIS HOUR. YESTERDAY WE WERE SEEING THOSE STORMS KIND OF ROLL THROUGH THE PIEDMONT TRIAD. THEY TURNED OUT TO BE GREAT BY THE END, BUT I MEAN, IT’S LOOKING VERY DIFFERENT AT THIS HOUR. IT IS. BUT NOW WE’VE GOT THIS DARK CLOUD HANGING OVER US. THAT IS THE PRETTY QUICKLY. AND THAT’S REALLY WHAT WE’LL SEE THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY. BUT THERE’S KIND OF A STORM SYSTEM JUST TO OUR SOUTHEAST AND OCCASIONALLY WE’LL GET A QUICK SHOWER OR WE’LL HEAR THE RUMBLE OF THUNDER. IT DOES KIND OF LOOK LIKE IT’S RAINING IN OUR SKY. CAMERA PICTURES, KIND OF HARD TO SEE SOMETIMES FROM THESE CAMERAS. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE SEEING SOME RAIN AT POINT OF THIS LENS NOW YESTERDAY. WE’VE GOT ABOUT A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN. YOU PROBABLY RECALL IT CAME DOWN PRETTY QUICKLY. THE BULK OF THE RAIN CAME DOWN IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES. AND THEN WE HAD SOME LIGHT SCATTERED SHOWERS THAT ROUNDED OUT THESE RAIN TOTALS. AFTER THAT, AS WE’RE LOOKING OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW, THOUGH, YOU CAN SEE WE’VE GOT THAT’S ABOUT THAT LITTLE RAIN CLOUD THAT WE’RE WATCHING RIGHT NOW FROM OUR CAMERA AS WE’RE LOOKING ALONG THIS LINE, THOUGH, THIS IS ABOUT WHERE WE’LL START TO SEE THOSE STORMS DEVELOP. NOW, THIS WILL KIND OF WOBBLE BACK AND FORTH TODAY, BUT IT’S A STATIONARY FRONT AND AS SUCH, IT STAYS RELATIVELY STATIONARY WITH STORMS FIRING UP ALL ALONG IT. NOW FOR THE DAY TODAY, THOUGH, WE ARE NOT EXPECTING SEVERE WEATHER. AREAS TO OUR SOUTH MAY SEE SOME SEVERE WEATHER AS WE’RE WATCHING THESE STORMS DEVELOP HERE. BUT FOR US, WE’RE JUST KIND OF TALKING ABOUT THAT RUN OF THE MILL THUNDERSTORM, SPRING, SUMMER STORM CHANCE. IT, OF COURSE, IS SOMETHING YOU WANT TO KEEP AN EAR OUT FOR AND KEEP AN EYE ON RADAR, WHICH YOU CAN DO RIGHT ON THE WXII APP. BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH IT’S ONLY A 20% CHANCE FOR RAIN, IF YOU HEAR THAT THUNDER, YOU WANT TO HEAD INSIDE AS SOON AS YOU CAN. TEMPERATURES IN THE LOW SEVENTIES, THOUGH, WE KEEP THAT 20% CHANCE THROUGHOUT THE DAY. BUT WE EVEN GET PARTLY CLOUDY OCCASIONALLY, MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES AS WE’RE LOOKING TOWARDS THE FOOTHILLS. 20% CHANCE WE’LL WRAP UP A LITTLE EARLIER THAN THE PIEDMONT TRIAD. AND THE MOUNTAINS ARE FAR ENOUGH AWAY FROM THAT FRONT THAT WE DON’T FORESEE ANY IMPACTS THERE. SUNNY SKIES, TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER SIXTIES. WE’LL TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS RAIN CHANCE. THE AREAS TO THE SOUTH THAT COULD SEE MORE INTENSE WEATHER. AND ALSO WE’LL TAKE A LOOK AT YOUR WORKWEEK FORECAST COMING UP. A DISTURBANCE AT A PARTY IN WINSTON-SALEM GETS OUT OF CONTROL AND ENDED WITH A SHOT BEING FIRED INTO THE GROUND. A VIEWER SENT US THIS PICTURE OF THAT SCENE THAT WAS AT THE INTERSECTION OF CLEMMONS VILLE AND THOMAS ROADS EARLIER TODAY. OFFICERS WERE CALLED TO A HOME THERE ABOUT A DISCHARGE OF FIREARM ARMS. WHEN THEY ARRIVED, THEY REPORTED SEEING 30 TO 40 PEOPLE INVOLVED IN A COMMOTION AND WITNESSES TOLD POLICE THAT STARTED WITH ESTEBAN BERNAL GETTING INTO A FIGHT WITH A WOMAN. THEY SAID DURING THAT HE TOOK OUT A GUN, FIRED IT INTO THE GROUND. NO ONE WAS HURT. BUT POLICE SAY BERNAL FLED THE SCENE AND HE IS NOW WANTED ON A CHARGE OF DISCHARGING A FIREARM IN CITY LIMITS. ALSO, IN WINSTON SALEM, A MAN SHOT BY A JUVENILE IS RECOVERING FROM HIS INJURIES THIS MORNING. POLICE SAY THEY FOUND THE MAN SHOT IN HIS THIGH IN A HOME LAST NIGHT ON WEST 26TH STREET. OFFICERS SAY THEY FOUND THE JUVENILE SUSPECT AS WELL INSIDE THAT SAME HOME AND THAT THEY ARE CHARGES. DANVILLE, VIRGINIA POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING THE CAUSE OF A FIRE AT A SCHOOL THIS WEEKEND. FIREFIGHTERS SAY THEY GOT THE CALL ABOUT THIS JUST BEFORE NOON. WOODBURY HILLS ELEMENTARY. CREWS FOUND FLAMES AND SMOKE AT THE BACK OF THE BUILDING. THEY SAY THEY QUICKLY KNOCKED DOWN THE FIRE. NO ONE WAS INSIDE THE SCHOOL AT THE TIME. NO FIREFIGHTER REPORTED TO BE INJURED IN THIS BATTLE. COMPLETE AND UTTER DEVASTATION. JUST HOUSES, ROOFS RIPPED OFF HOUSES WALLS TOOK OFF FROM HOUSES SEEN SEVERAL AREAS WHERE PARTS OF THE ASPHALT HAD BEEN JACKED UP FROM THE GROUND. I MEAN, JUST COMPLETE DEVASTATION. AT LEAST 26 PEOPLE ARE DEAD, DOZENS OF OTHERS INJURED AFTER A TORNADO RIPPED THROUGH THE SOUTH EAST TODAY. SEARCH AND RECOVERY TEAMS ARE RESUMING DIGGING THROUGH DEBRIS OF HOMES AND BUILDINGS. THE AMERICAN RED CROSS ESTIMATES 6000 STRUCTURES ARE DAMAGED AS IT SENDS DISASTER RELIEF OPERATIONS THERE. THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI IS ONE OF THE HARDEST HIT AREAS. IVAN RODRIGUEZ IS ON THE GROUND AND ROLLING FORK, THAT IS JUST ONE OF MANY COMMUNITIES DEALING WITH THE AFTERMATH OF THAT SEVERE WEATHER. AND IT WAS LIKE NO NOTICE. WE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. TRACY HARTIN AND HER HUSBAND OWN CHUCK’S DAIRY BAR IN ROLLING FORK. WHEN THE TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN, EVERYTHING THEY HAD WAS GONE. AND WHAT THEY SAY FELT LIKE SECONDS. THANK GOD WE’RE ALIVE, BUT ALSO WE’RE SO DEVASTATED BY THE LOSS AND THE WHOLE TRAILER PARK BEHIND THE BUILDING. IT’S GONE. AND WE DON’T KNOW WHERE EVERYBODY IS. HOLDEN SAYS THE REASON SHE AND HER STAFF ARE ALIVE IS BECAUSE OF A LAST SECOND DECISION FROM HER HUSBAND. MOMENTS BEFORE THE TORNADO DESTROYED THEIR BUSINESS. AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE LIGHTS. THE LIGHTS STARTED FLICKERING AGAIN. I DON’T KNOW IF IT WAS ME OR SOMEBODY. WHO’S THAT COOLER AND DIDN’T AND STARTED IT ALL IN THE COOLER. AND THIS LITTLE SPOT SAVED OUR LIFE. MANY STRUCTURES ACROSS ROLLING FORK AND OTHER PARTS OF MISSISSIPPI WERE REDUCED TO RUBBLE. THE CITY’S MAYOR SAYS THE COMMUNITY IS HURTING AND IT’S IMPORTANT THOSE AFFECTED ARE TAKEN CARE OF. MY CITY IS GONE, BUT WE RECEIVE IT AND WE’RE GOING TO COME BACK. WE’RE GOING TO COME BACK STRONG. EARLY SUNDAY MORNING, PRESIDENT BIDEN APPROVED A MISSISSIPPI DISASTER DECLARATION ORDERING FEDERAL AID TO SUPPLEMENT STATE TRIBAL AND LOCAL RECOVERY EFFORTS. AND THE AREAS AFFECTED BY SEVERE STORMS AND TORNADOES IN ROLLING FORK, MISSISSIPPI, I’M IVAN RODRIGUEZ. AND WE DO KNOW THAT NORTH CAROLINA BASED SAMARITAN’S PURSE IS SENDING VOLUNTEERS TO HELP FAMILIES AFFECTED BY THE TORNADOES THERE IN MISSISSIPPI. THE ORGANIZATION SAYS IT’S ALREADY HAS A DISASTER RELIEF UNIT ON THE GROUND IN THE STORM ZONE. THE UNITS INCLUDE TRACTOR TRAILERS WITH TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT. AND THOSE VOLUNTEERS USE THAT TO HELP COVER DAMAGED ROOFS WITH TARPS, CLEAR DEBRIS AND TRY TO BRING HOPE TO FAMILIES WHO ARE STRUGGLING. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET INVOLVED WITH THE RESPONSE, WE DO HAVE MORE DETAILS ON THIS STORY ON OUR WEBSITE, WXII 12. DOT COM. BACK CLOSER TO HOME NOW, A WILDFIRE BURNING IN EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA STILL 0% CONTAINED THIS MORNING. THE NORTH CAROLINA FOREST SERVICE SAYS THE LAST RESORT FIRE IS BURNING IN TYRRELL COUNTY. SO FAR BURNED ABOUT 5800 ACRES. THAT’S ACROSS PRIVATE AND FEDERAL LAND RIGHT NOW. NO INJURIES ARE REPORTED. NO STRUCTURES ARE REPORTED TO BE THREATENED EITHER. ABOUT 75 FIREFIGHTERS ARE BATTLING THIS BLAZE ON THE GROUND AND IN THE AIR. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION. AND COMMITMENT 2024 NOW AT WINSTON-SALEM NATIVE IS OFFICIALLY RUNNING FOR NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR. STATE TREASURER DALE FALWELL SAYS HE IS SEEKING THE REPUBLICAN PARTY’S NOMINATION. FALWELL IS A FORMER LEGISLATOR, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER AND STATE UNEMPLOYMENT OFFICE CHIEF. HE WAS ELECTED STATE TREASURER IN 2016. MY BIG CONCERNS TODAY IS THAT PEOPLE HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN THEIR GOVERNMENT. YOU CAN SEE IT IN THE VOTER REGISTRATION ROLLS. THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE IN OUR STATE ARE NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY POLITICAL PARTY. THERE’S NO OTHER MATHEMATICAL WAY OF DESCRIBING THAT. PEOPLE HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE. AND HE SAYS HE CHOSE SATURDAY TO ANNOUNCE HIS CANDIDACY AS IT MARKS THREE YEARS SINCE HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH COVID 19. OUR BILL O’NEIL SPOKE WITH DALE FALWELL ABOUT HIS RUN FOR GOVERNOR. YOU CAN WATCH THAT INTERVIEW COMING UP IN OUR NEXT HALF HOUR. SO STICK WITH US FOR THAT. LOOKING AHEAD TODAY, TEMPLE EMANUEL IN GREENSBORO IS PROVIDING A TASTE OF JEWISH CULTURE TO THE COMMUNITY. THE 2023 JEWISH FESTIVAL IS TODAY THE SYNAGOGUE ON JEFFERSON ROAD IN GREENSBORO. THIS IS THE FIRST IN-PERSON FESTIVAL SINCE THE PANDEMIC THEY’VE HELD. THERE WILL BE FOOD, MUSIC PERFORMANCES AND A SPECIAL KIDS FUN ZONE WITH CRAFTS, GAMES AND RIDES. THAT JEWISH FESTIVAL RUNS FROM 11 A.M. TO 5 P.M. TODAY, AND THAT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. A LOT OF WAKE FOREST STUDENTS ARE WAKING UP THIS MORNING WITH SOME TIRED FEET. IT’S ALL FOR A GOOD CAUSE, THOUGH, OF COURSE. ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR OF THE WICKED SHAKE DANCE MARATHON ON THEY RAISE MONEY FOR CANCER RESEARCH AT THIS EVENT EVERY YEAR. PART OF THE MOTTO FOR THE EVENT IS STANDING UP TO CANCER. THE GOAL FOR STUDENTS TO NOT SIT DOWN FOR THE ENTIRE 12 HOURS. IT’S REALLY WONDERFUL, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS IMPACTED SO HEAVILY WITH COVID THESE PAST TWO YEARS IN 2020 AND 2021, WE HAD ONLINE AND HYBRID. IT’S BEEN REALLY GREAT TO SEE THIS COME BACK INTO PERSON LAST YEAR WE HAD IT IN PERSON AND THIS YEAR WE’RE JUST SEEING A LOT MORE STUDENT AWARENESS ABOUT THE EVENT AND IT’S REALLY SPECIAL TO SEE EVERYONE COME TOGETHER. THE DANCE MARATHON WRAPPED UP AT MIDNIGHT. THEY HAVE NOT RELEASED THE TOTAL YET, BUT ALL THE MONEY WE DO KNOW GOES TO THE BRIAN PICCOLO CANCER RESEARCH FUND LAST YEAR. FOR CONTEXT, WAKE FOREST STUDENTS RAISED MORE THAN $300,000 FOR THAT CAUSE, SEARCHING THE RUBBLE FOR SURVIVORS, INVESTIGATORS WILL RESUME THEIR SEARCH FOR THE CAUSE OF A DEADLY EXPLOSION AT A CHOCOLATE FACTORY. LIVE UPDATES THERE. PLUS, HOW ONE LUNCH LADY IS GETTING THE KINDNESS AND CARE SHE GIVES OUT. RETURNED BACK TO HER. THOSE STORIES AND MORE COMING UP
