WE GET IT. TWO MORE BREAKING NEWS. NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED AFTER AN OFF DUTY GREENSBORO POLICE OFFICER WAS SHOT LAST MONTH. POLICE SAY THREE PEOPLE, INCLUDING THE OFFICER, WERE INVOLVED IN AN ALTERCATION ON GOLDEN GATE DRIVE ON FEBRUARY 10TH. BUT THERE WAS, QUOTE, UNCLEAR AND VARYING INFORMATION AND STATEMENTS AND QUOTE. POLICE SAY THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION IS OVER. THE OFFICER, DUSTIN EGGLESTON, RESIGNED MONDAY TO INVESTIGATE, OBTAINED SEARCH WARRANTS AND 911 CALLS RELATED TO THIS CASE. ACCORDING TO THE SEARCH WARRANT. EGGLESTON SAID HE AND ANOTHER MAN WERE WALKING A DOG AT 445 THAT MORNING WHEN THEY SAID THEY ENCOUNTERED A MAN WEARING A MASK AND CARRYING A BACKPACK. ELSTON SAID THE DOG BECAME EXCITED. THE MAN STARTED SCREAMING AND APPEARED TO BE SCARED AND THE DOG BROKE AWAY AND RAN TOWARD THE MAN. THE SEARCH WARRANT SAYS ELSTON SAID HE CHASED THE DOG WHILE THE MAN READ TOWARD HIS HOME FOR HELP. ELSTON SAID AS HE WAS GETTING CONTROL OF HIS DOG, THE DOOR BURST OPEN AND THE MAN STARTED FIRING SHOTS. ELSTON SAYS HE RAN TO A NEIGHBOR’S HOME AND THEN NOTICED HE HAD BEEN SHOT IN THE ANKLE FOOT AREA. BUT THAT NARRATIVE IS A BIT DIFFERENT THAN ONE IN A911 CALL. THE CALLER TOLD THE DISPATCHER TWO MEN WERE CHASING HIM WITH A KNIFE AND A GUN AND THAT HE FEARED FOR HIS LIFE. THE CALLER ALSO SAID. THE OTHER MEN FIRED THE GUN AGAIN. A Greensboro police officer who was shot during what police originally called a barricade earlier this month has since resigned from the department.Police said Dustin Elston resigned Monday after being with the department since 2018.12 Investigates obtained a search warrant for a location on Golden Gate Drive. That’s the home where police responded on Feb. 10 for a barricaded subject call. Later that day, police said it turned into an aggravated assault investigation. They said they received varying information and statements among the three individuals. It reveals Elston, and another man,"...were walking their dog on February 10, 2023, at approximately 4:45 a.m. when they encountered a (man) wearing a mask and carrying a backpack."It further reveals, Elston said, the dog became excited, the man started screaming and appeared to be scared, and the dog broke away and ran toward the man.Related: ‘They trying to kill me,’ 911 calls released after recent Golden Gate Drive police responseAccording to the search warrant, "Elston chased the dog while the (man) ran toward a residence yelling for help.”He then continued to chase the dog while the man ran toward his home for help, as warrants revealed."Elston advises that he was again getting control of his dog and while doing so the same door that the suspect previously entered burst opened... (the man) began firing rounds from a gun."Elston said he ran to a neighbor’s home and then noticed he had been shot in the ankle and foot area.However, that narrative is different than one in a 911 call obtained by WXII 12 News. The caller told the dispatcher two men were chasing him with a knife and a gun and that he feared for his life. The caller also said the other men fired the gun.The Greensboro Police Department said the criminal investigation has concluded, and at this time, no charges have been filed. They have not released any more information surrounding Elston’s resignation.
