HOW YOU CAN HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE. A LOT OF TIMES THE ORGANIZATION HEARS COMMON MYTHS AND CONCERNS FROM PEOPLE LIKE IT’S TOO EXPENSIVE. I’M NOT MARRIED OR I DON’T OWN A HOME. I CAN’T ADOPT. BUT C H S SAYS, IF YOU HAVE A HEART FOR CHILDREN AND AN INVITING, LOVING SPACE TO PLEASE CONSIDER FOSTERING OR ADOPTION. THERE’S CHILDREN THAT ARE LITERALLY SLEEPING AND THE SS OFFICES HOTEL AISLES BEING DISPLACED, THINGS LIKE THAT, BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOWHERE TO GO. ONE IS TOO MANY AND THAT IS A DISHEARTENING REALITY FOR SO MANY CHILDREN. FAMILY RECRUITMENT SPECIALIST DARIUS MOORE SEES THE NEED FIRSTHAND. WHAT’S IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT BEFORE THE STATE TAKES A CHILD AND PLACED THEM IN THE SSA IS THEY’VE ALREADY TRIED TO FIND OUT IF THIS CHILD HAS ANY OTHER FAMILY THAT IS AVAILABLE. MOORE SAID RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE ANY TIME COST MAY BE A CONCERN. AND WHEN YOU TAKE A PLACEMENT, THERE IS A SUBSIDY THAT WE PROVIDE ALL OUR FAMILIES WITH. THERE IS ALSO A PROGRAM IN NORTH CAROLINA CALL NC REACH AND NC REACH PROVIDES TUITION FOR CHILDREN WHO ARE IN FOSTER CARE AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ADOPTED BY THE AGE OF 12. There are more than 12,000 children in North Carolina living in foster care who are waiting to be adopted. The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina is hoping people can make a difference and help provide a place to call home. There is also a program called in North Carolina called NC reach that provides tuition for children who are in foster care that aren’t adopted by the age of 12 and can go to any North Carolina public college at a discounted rate or even free.”Moore urges people to take that first step and reach out to CHS and click here to start the application.
